Biodegradable, cross-linked polymer particle embolics and methods of making the same are described. The particle embolics can be used as embolization agents.

We claim: 1. A polymer particle, comprising: a reaction product of a prepolymer solution including a solvent, at least one monomer, and at least one crosslinker having a structure: wherein m is 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15, and n is 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, or 18; wherein p is 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15; wherein q is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15, and r is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15; wherein s is 0, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15; wherein t is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15, and u is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15; wherein v is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15; or wherein w is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15. 2. The polymer particle of claim 1 having a diameter between about 40 μm and about 1,200 μm. 3. The polymer particle of claim 1 having a diameter between about 75 μm and about 1,200 μm. 4. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one monomer includes at least one functional group. 5. The polymer particle of claim 4 , wherein the at least one functional group is acrylate, acrylamide, methacrylate, or methacrylamide. 6. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one monomer includes an ionizable functional group. 7. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the prepolymer solution further includes a second crosslinker including a second linkage selected from an ester, a thioester, a carbonate, a peptide cleavable by matrix metalloproteinases, a peptide cleavable by matrix collagenases, a peptide cleavable by matrix elastases, and a peptide cleavable by matrix cathepsins. 8. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the polymer particles are biodegradable. 9. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the polymer particles are biostable. 10. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one monomer is dimethylacrylamide. 11. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one monomer is acrylamide. 12. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one crosslinker has a structure wherein m is 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15, and n is 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, or 18. 13. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one crosslinker has a structure wherein p is 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15. 14. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one crosslinker has a structure wherein q is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15, and r is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15. 15. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one crosslinker has a structure wherein s is 0, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15. 16. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one crosslinker has a structure wherein t is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15, and u is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15. 17. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one crosslinker has a structure wherein v is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15. 18. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one crosslinker has a structure wherein w is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15. 19. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one crosslinker has a structure wherein v is 1. 20. The polymer particle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one crosslinker has a structure wherein p is 1.
