An image forming apparatus is provided with a storage unit for storing setting information including at least a size of a substitute recording medium, and a processing unit for executing a print instruction by automatically changing a size of a recording medium to be used to the size of the substitute recording medium based on the setting information stored in the storage means, when the size of the recording medium specified by the print instruction is not available.

What is claimed is: 1. An image sending apparatus that sends an image to a printing apparatus, comprising: a user interface that accepts a user setting (a) that sets printing, by the printing apparatus, of an output image having a size that is reduced compared to a size of an original image on a sheet, when the image sending apparatus sends the image to the printing apparatus and the printing apparatus cannot print whole of the original image due to the size of the original image being larger than a sheet size on which the printing apparatus can print; and a user setting (b) that sets printing, by the printing apparatus, of output images that correspond to split images of the original image, when the image sending apparatus sends the image to the printing apparatus and the printing apparatus cannot print whole of the original image due to the size of the original image being larger than a sheet size on which the printing apparatus can print, wherein the user setting (a) is set before the image is sent to the printing apparatus in a case in which the user interface accepts the user setting (a), and wherein the user setting (b) is set before the image is sent to the printing apparatus in a case in which the user interface accepts the user setting (b). 2. The image sending apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the split images have the same image size. 3. A printing system comprising: a printing apparatus; and an image sending apparatus including: a user interface that accepts a user setting (a) that sets printing, by the printing apparatus, of an output image having a size that is reduced compared to a size of an original image on a sheet, when the image sending apparatus sends the image to the printing apparatus and the printing apparatus cannot print whole of the original image due to the size of the original image being larger than a sheet size on which the printing apparatus can print; and a user setting (b) that sets printing, by the printing apparatus, of output images that correspond to split images of the original image, when the image sending apparatus sends the image to the printing apparatus and the printing apparatus cannot print whole of the original image due to the size of the original image being larger than a sheet size on which the printing apparatus can print, wherein the user setting (a) is set before the image is sent to the printing apparatus in a case in which the user interface accepts the user setting (a), wherein the user setting (b) is set before the image is sent to the printing apparatus in a case in which the user interface accepts the user setting (b), wherein the printing apparatus prints the output image or the output images with the user setting (a) or (b) accepted by the user interface, and wherein the printing apparatus can print the whole of original image when the size of the original image is less than or equal to a sheet size on which the printing apparatus can print. 4. The printing system as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the split images have the same image size. 5. The printing system as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the printing apparatus is separate and distinct from the image sending apparatus. 6. An apparatus comprising: a processing unit configured to send, to a printing apparatus, image data of an original image to be printed; and a user interface, coupled to the processing unit, configured to accept selection of one of a first printing and a second printing for the original image by the printing apparatus, wherein the first printing by the printing apparatus prints an image corresponding to the original image but having a size that is reduced from an original size of the original image when the original size is larger than a sheet size on which the printing apparatus is currently capable of printing, wherein the second printing by the printing apparatus prints split images of the original image when the original size is larger than the sheet size on which the printing apparatus is currently capable of printing, wherein the first printing is set in the processing unit before the image is sent to the printing apparatus in a case in which the user interface accepts the setting of the first printing, and wherein the second printing is set in the processing unit before the image data is sent to the printing apparatus in a case in which the user interface accepts the setting of the second printing. 7. The apparatus as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the split images have sizes that are identical to each other. 8. The apparatus as claimed in claim 7 , wherein the second printing by the printing apparatus prints the split images on at least two sheets having a combined size identical to the original size. 9. The apparatus as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the processing unit is coupled to the printing apparatus via a network. 10. A method for printing using a printing apparatus, comprising: setting, in an image sending apparatus, a user setting (a) that sets printing, by the printing apparatus, of an output image having a size that is reduced compared to a size of an original image on a sheet, when the image sending apparatus sends the image to the printing apparatus and the printing apparatus cannot print whole of the original image due to the size of the original image being larger than a sheet size on which the printing apparatus can print, in a case in which a user interface accepts the user setting (a); setting, in the image sending apparatus, a user setting (b) that sets printing, by the printing apparatus, of output images that correspond to split images of the original image, when the image sending apparatus sends the image to the printing apparatus and the printing apparatus cannot print whole of the original image due to the size of the original image being larger than a sheet size on which the printing apparatus can print, in a case in which the user interface accepts the user setting (b); and sending the image to the printing apparatus after the setting of the user setting (a) or (b) is accepted by the user interface; wherein the printing apparatus can print the whole of original image when the size of the original image is less than or equal to a sheet size on which the printing apparatus can print.
