The present invention is directed to a coating composition or paint comprising a multistage latex with at least first and second stages, wherein the composition or paint is substantially free of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and capable of film formation even in the absence of coalescent agents. The base paint formulation is capable of being tinted at a point-of-sale (i.e. in-store) using a colorant composition of a type and quantity required to produce a paint of desired color and finish. The paints, show improved block resistance, scrub resistance and tack resistance.

What is claimed is: 1. A coating composition, comprising: an in-store tintable liquid base paint formulation, comprising: a multistage latex polymer having at least a first stage with a Tg of greater than about 0 to 120° C.; and at least a second stage with a Tg of −35° C. to 10° C.; wherein one or both of the first stage or second stage is formed from one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers; and a fluorosurfactant; and about 0 to 15 wt % of one or more colorant compositions having volatile organic content (VOC) of less than about 50 g/L; which colorants are added to the base paint formulation at a point-of-sale to achieve a desired color; wherein the coating composition displays a scrub resistance of at least about 800 scrubs. 2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprise acrylic acid. 3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprise butyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate. 4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprise diacetone acrylamide. 5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein one or both of the first stage or second stage is formed from monomers comprising one or more ureido-functional monomers. 6. The composition of claim 1 , wherein one or both of the first stage or second stage is formed from monomers comprising one or more polyfunctional acrylate monomers. 7. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the fluorosurfactant is present in an amount of up to about 0.5 wt %. 8. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the difference in Tg of the first and second stages (ΔTg) is less than about 60° C. 9. The composition of claim 8 , wherein the difference in Tg of the first and second stages (ΔTg) is less than about 50° C. 10. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition exhibits a scrub resistance of at least about 1000 scrubs. 11. The composition of claim 10 , wherein the composition exhibits a scrub resistance of at least about 1200 scrubs. 12. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition exhibits a tack resistance force of less than 1.1 lbF. 13. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition exhibits a 20° gloss of at least 45. 14. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition exhibits a 60° gloss of at least 75. 15. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition exhibits a Konig hardness of at least 9. 16. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition exhibits a block resistance rating of at least 6. 17. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition exhibits a print resistance of at least 8 as determined by ASTM D2064. 18. A coating composition, comprising: an in-store tintable liquid base paint formulation, comprising: a multistage latex polymer having at least a first stage with a Tg of greater than about 0 to 120° C.; and at least a second stage with a Tg of −35° C. to 10° C.; wherein one or both of the first stage or second stage is formed from one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers; and a fluorosurfactant; and about 0 to 15 wt % of one or more colorant compositions having volatile organic content (VOC) of less than about 50 g/L; which colorants are added to the base paint formulation at a point-of-sale to achieve a desired color; wherein the coating composition exhibits one or more of the following: a scrub resistance of at least about 800 scrubs; a tack resistance force of less than 1.1 lbF; a 20° gloss of at least 45; a 60° gloss of at least 75; a Konig hardness of at least 9; a block resistance rating of at least 6; and a print resistance of at least 8 as determined by ASTM D2064. 19. The composition of claim 18 , wherein the difference in Tg of the first and second stages (ΔTg) is about 50° C. to about 60° C.
