1 . A method for preparing ammonia borane, comprising: reacting a stoichiometric amount of sodium borohydride and twice the stoichiometric amount of ammonium salt in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at room temperature, the THF containing about 1% dissolved water. 2 . The method of claim 1 , the reaction is conducted at room temperature. 3 . A method for preparing amine-boranes, comprising: reacting a stoichiometric amount of sodium borohydride with a stoichiometric amount of ammonium salt in refluxing THF in the presence of at least one corresponding amine. 4 . A method for preparing amine-boranes, comprising: adding a solution of THF containing about a slight excess than stoichiometric amount of water to a mixture, the mixture comprising: a slight excess than stoichiometric amount of sodium borohydride; a corresponding amine; and a slight excess than stoichiometric amount of sodium bicarbonate. 5 . The method of claim 4 , the reaction is conducted at room temperature. 6 . The method of claim 4 , the ratio of amine:sodium borohydride:sodium bicarbonate:water is 1:1.5:3:3.
