A non-leaching mediator may include a polymer having a polymeric backbone, and a plurality of phenothiazine groups bonded to the polymeric backbone. The plurality of phenothiazine groups may include at least one of a phenothiazine group having the general formula (IV): and salts thereof, where n is about 9 and “R” represents the polymeric backbone to which the phenothiazine group is bonded, and a phenothiazine group having the general formula (V): and salts thereof, where n is about 9 and “R” represents the polymeric backbone to which the phenothiazine group is bonded.

What is claimed is: 1. An electrochemical test sensor comprising a working electrode, a counter electrode, an enzyme and a mediator, the mediator including a polymer, the polymer including one or more compounds having the general formula (IX) being reacted with a compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups, wherein the general formula (IX) is as follows: and salts thereof, where n is about 9. 2. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 1 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes epoxide groups. 3. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 1 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes isocyanate groups. 4. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 1 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes carboxylic acid groups. 5. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 1 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes anhydride groups. 6. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 1 , wherein the one or more compounds having the general formula (IX) includes 2-(8-(ω-(bis(ω-hydroxyalkyl)amino)alkyl)-3H-phenothiazin-3-ylideneamino)benzene-1,4-di sulfonic acid. 7. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 1 wherein the enzyme is glucose oxidase. 8. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 1 wherein the enzyme is glucose dehydrogenase. 9. A non-leaching mediator, comprising: a polymer including one or more compounds having the general formula (IX) being reacted with a compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups, wherein the general formula (IX) is as follows: and salts thereof, where n is about 9. 10. The mediator of claim 9 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes epoxide groups. 11. The mediator of claim 9 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes isocyanate groups. 12. The mediator of claim 9 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes carboxylic acid groups. 13. The mediator of claim 9 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes anhydride groups. 14. The mediator of claim 9 , wherein the one or more compounds having the general formula (IX) includes 2-(8-(ω-(bis(ω-hydroxyalkyl)amino)alkyl)-3H-phenothiazin-3-ylideneamino)benzene-1,4-disulfonic acid. 15. An electrochemical test sensor comprising a working electrode, a counter electrode, an enzyme and a mediator, the mediator including a polymer, the polymer including one or more compounds having the general formula (X) being reacted with a compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups, wherein the general formula (X) is as follows: and salts thereof, where n is about 9. 16. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 15 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes epoxide groups. 17. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 15 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes isocyanate groups. 18. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 15 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes carboxylic acid groups. 19. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 15 , wherein the compound having a plurality of polymerizable groups includes anhydride groups. 20. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 15 , wherein the one or more compounds having the general formula (IX) includes 2-(2-(ω-(bis(ω-hydroxyalkyl)amino)alkyl)-3H-phenothiazin-3-ylideneamino)benzene-1,4-disulfonic acid. 21. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 15 , wherein the enzyme is glucose oxidase. 22. The electrochemical test sensor of claim 15 , wherein the enzyme is glucose dehydrogenase.
