A payment card (e.g., credit and/or debit card) is provided with a magnetic emulator operable of communicating information to a magnetic stripe reader. Information used in validating a financial transaction is encrypted based on time such that a validating server requires receipt of the appropriate encrypted information for a period of time to validate a transaction for that period of time. Such dynamic information may be communicated using such an emulator such that a card may be swiped through a magnetic stripe reader—yet communicate different information based on time. An emulator may receive information as well as communicate information to a variety of receivers (e.g., an RFID receiver).

What is claimed is: 1. A device comprising: circuitry operable to communicate with a cellular network; RFID circuitry operable to electrically couple the device to a payment terminal and to communicate RFID data to the payment terminal; a coil; and a processor for controlling the operation of the coil such that the coil is operable to electrically couple the device to the payment terminal and to communicate data in magnetic stripe data format to the payment terminal, wherein the coil is operable to electrically couple the device to the payment terminal from a position beneath a surface of the device. 2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device is thicker than a payment card. 3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device is a portable telephonic device. 4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device is a portable media player. 5. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a display operable to display a virtual payment card. 6. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a touch-sensitive display operable to display a virtual payment card. 7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the RFID circuitry comprises an RFID antenna. 8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the RFID circuitry is further operable to electrically couple the device to the payment terminal when the device is outside and within proximity of the payment terminal. 9. A device comprising: circuitry for cellular communications; an RFID operable to electrically couple to a payment terminal and to communicate RFID data to the payment terminal; and a processor for controlling a coil operable to electrically couple to the payment terminal and to communicate magnetic stripe data to the payment terminal, wherein the coil is operable to electrically couple the device to the payment terminal from a position beneath a surface of the device. 10. The device of claim 9 , wherein the device is thicker than a payment card. 11. The device of claim 9 , wherein the device is a portable telephonic device. 12. The device of claim 9 , wherein the device is a portable media player. 13. The device of claim 9 , further comprising: a display operable to display a virtual payment card. 14. The device of claim 9 , further comprising: a touch-sensitive display operable to display a virtual payment card. 15. The device of claim 9 , wherein the RFID comprises an RFID antenna. 16. The device of claim 9 , wherein the RFID is further operable to electrically couple to the payment terminal when the device is outside and within proximity of the payment terminal.
