An air drying auto-oxidizable resin composition comprising components: a) a drier comprising a manganese salt complex, and b) a polymer comprising unsaturated fatty acid residues, wherein the manganese salt complex has the following structure I: wherein the anion is selected from Cl − , NO 3 − or R 2 COO − , in which case n=2; or the anion is SO 4 2− , in which case n=1; wherein X,Y,Z are independently selected from O, OH, OH 2 , OC(R 3 )O, and R 4 BO 2 and wherein a and b are independently an integer of value 2, 3 or 4; R 1 ═H, C1-C20 alkyl optionally substituted with heteroatoms, C6-C20 aryl optionally substituted with heteroatoms; R 2 =C1-C20 alkyl optionally substituted with heteroatoms, C6-C20 aryl optionally substituted with heteroatoms, or a polymeric residue; and R 3 =C1-C20 alkyl optionally substituted with heteroatoms, C6-C20 aryl optionally substituted with heteroatoms, or a polymeric residue. R 4 ═C1-C20 alkyl optionally substituted with heteroatoms, or C6-C20 aryl optionally substituted with heteroatoms.

The invention claimed is: 1. An air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition comprising components: a) a drier comprising a manganese salt complex, and b) a polymer comprising unsaturated fatty acid residues, wherein the polymer is selected from the group consisting of alkyds, vinyl polymers, polyurethane resins, hyperbranched resins and mixtures thereof, and wherein the manganese salt complex has the following structure I: wherein the anion is selected from Cl − , NO 3 − or R 2 COO − , in which case n=2; or the anion is SO 4 2− , in which case n=1; and wherein the cation of the manganese salt complex is present in an amount of 0.001 wt. % to 0.5 wt. %, based on total solids content of the polymer b); and wherein X, Y, and Z are independently selected from O, OH, OH 2 , OC(R 3 )O, and R 4 BO 2 ; a and b are independently an integer of value 2, 3 or 4; and wherein R 1 is H, C1-C20 alkyl or C6-C20 aryl; and each of R 2 , R 3 and R 4 is C1-C20 alkyl or C6-C20 aryl. 2. An air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 1 wherein the anion is selected from Cl − or NO 3 − , in which case n=2; or the anion is SO 4 2− , in which case n=1. 3. An air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 1 wherein Z═O. 4. An air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 1 wherein X and/or Y is R 4 BO 2 . 5. An air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 4 wherein the anion is R 2 COO − . 6. An air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 1 wherein R4═C6H5 or its substituted analogues. 7. An air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 6 wherein X and Y are C 6 H 5 BO 2 , and a and b are 4. 8. An air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 2 wherein X and Y═O, and integers a and b=4. 9. An air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 2 wherein X and Y═R 2 COO − and integers a and b=3. 10. An air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 1 wherein R1 is CH 3 . 11. A coating composition comprising the air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 1 . 12. A coating composition according to claim 11 which is in a form selected from the group consisting of paints, adhesives, lacquers, inks and varnishes. 13. The air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition is cross-linked. 14. The air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 4 , wherein the composition is cross-linked. 15. The air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 7 , wherein the composition is cross-linked. 16. The air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 8 , wherein the composition is cross-linked. 17. The air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 10 , wherein the composition is cross-linked. 18. A substrate coated with the air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition according to claim 1 . 19. A method of coating a substrate comprising applying the coating composition according to claim 11 on a substrate, and drying the coating composition in the presence of air to obtain a coating on the substrate. 20. A method for air drying of an auto-oxidisable resin composition comprising a polymer which comprises unsaturated fatty acid residues, wherein the polymer is selected from the group consisting of alkyds, vinyl polymers, polyurethane resins, hyperbranched resins and mixtures thereof, wherein the method comprises incorporating into the composition as a drier a manganese carboxylate salt complex having the following structure I: wherein the anion is selected from Cl − , NO 3 − or R 2 COO − , in which case n=2; or the anion is SO 4 2− , in which case n=1; and wherein the cation of the manganese salt complex is present in an amount of 0.001 wt. % to 0.5 wt. %, based on total solids content of the polymer; and wherein X, Y, and Z are independently selected from O, OH, OH 2 , OC(R 3 )O, and R 4 BO 2 ; a and b are independently an integer of value 2, 3 or 4; and wherein R 1 is H, C1-C20 alkyl or C6-C20 aryl; and each of R 2 , R 3 and R 4 is C1-C20 alkyl or C6-C20 aryl.
