A method of treating porous material, such as cement or concrete. In this method, fatty acid alkyl esters having 16 to 22 carbon atoms are provided. Polystyrene is dissolved in the fatty acid alkyl esters to thereby form a blend composition. The blend composition is then applied to a cementitious material, which effectively seals the cementitious material and protects it. In another embodiment, a cementitious material prepared in accordance with the method just described is disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of treating a porous material, comprising: providing fatty acid alkyl esters having 16 to 22 carbon atoms; dissolving polystyrene in the fatty acid alkyl esters to form a blend composition; and applying the blend composition to a cementitious material. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the polystyrene is present in the blend composition in an amount of from about 1% to about 40% by weight of the fatty acid alkyl esters. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of providing the fatty acid alkyl esters comprises providing a soy methyl ester. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of applying the blend composition to a porous material comprises admixing the blend composition with the cementitious material. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the blend composition is admixed with the cementitious material in an amount of from about 1.25% to about 2.50% by weight of the cementitious material. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of applying the blend composition to a porous material comprises topically treating a surface of the cementitious material with the blend composition, wherein the blend enters pores of the cementitious material. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the blend composition penetrates at least 2 mm below the surface of the cementitious material. 8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the blend composition penetrates at least 4 mm below the surface of the cementitious material. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the blend composition is topically applied to the porous material as a sealant. 10. A cementitious material prepared with the method of claim 1 . 11. The cementitious material of claim 10 , wherein the cementitious material after the blend is applied thereto has a water absorption of at least 87% less than untreated cementitious material.
