Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems and methods for hosting one or more electronic games are described. A method in a system for hosting one or more electronic games includes receiving a selection by a player of an electronic game. The method includes enabling the electronic game to be played using a computing device operable by the player. The method also includes determining a game result based on game play by the player in the selected electronic game. The method further includes causing value to be awarded to the player in accordance with the game result. Various useful and technically advantageous features enabling play-to-earn electronic gaming where valuable payouts may be made in various non-monetary means.

What is claimed is: 1 . A system for hosting one or more electronic games, the system comprising: a communications interface; and one or more processors operatively coupled to the communications interface, and configured to: receive, via the communications interface, a selection by a player of an electronic game; enable the electronic game to be played using a computing device operable by the player; determine a game result based on game play by the player in the electronic game; cause value to be awarded to the player in a cryptocurrency in accordance with the game result; generate metadata representing a game state and outcome; generate a cryptographic hash of the metadata; transmit the hash to a blockchain node for consensus-based inclusion in an immutable ledger; and invoke a smart contract deployed on the blockchain, wherein the smart contract is configured to conditionally release a tokenized reward based on validation of the hash corresponding to the game result; wherein the one or more processors are further configured to direct the communications interface to establish a connection with a blockchain to facilitate the value being caused to be awarded to the player in the cryptocurrency. 2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to direct the communications interface to establish the connection with the blockchain to facilitate recordation of the game result in the immutable ledger. 3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to collect, via the communications interface, game play data for the electronic game. 4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein to collect the game play data for the electronic game, the one or more processors are further configured to collect the game play data while the electronic game is running or upon completion of the electronic game. 5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein to determine the game result, the one or more processors are further configured to determine the game result further based on the collected game play data. 6 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to direct the communications interface to establish the connection with the blockchain to facilitate recordation of the game play data in the immutable ledger. 7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein to cause value to be awarded to the player, the one or more processors are further configured to cause the value to be transferred or credited to an account associated with the player. 8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to receive, via the communications interface, identifying information about the account associated with the player. 9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to receive, via the communications interface, identifying information about at least one of the player, the computing device operable by the player, and an account associated with the player. 10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein to cause value to be awarded to the player, the one or more processors are further configured to cause the value to be awarded to the player after completion of the electronic game. 11 . A method in a system for hosting one or more electronic games, the method comprising: receiving a selection by a player of an electronic game; enabling the electronic game to be played using a computing device operable by the player; determining a game result based on game play by the player in the selected electronic game; generating metadata representing a game state and outcome; generating a cryptographic hash of the metadata; transmitting the hash to a blockchain node for consensus-based inclusion in an immutable ledger; invoking a smart contract deployed on the blockchain, the smart contract being configured to conditionally release a cryptocurrency value based on the validated hash corresponding to the game result; and causing value to be awarded to the player in a cryptocurrency in accordance with the game result, wherein the method further comprises establishing a connection with a blockchain to facilitate causing the value to be awarded to the player in the cryptocurrency. 12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein receiving the selection of the electronic game comprises receiving the same selection of the electronic game from the player and from at least one other player. 13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein enabling the electronic game to be played comprises enabling the electronic game to be played using the computing device operable by the player and at least one additional computing device operable by the at least one other player. 14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein determining the game result comprises computing the game result based on game play by the player and the at least one other player in the selected electronic game. 15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein causing value to be awarded to the player comprises causing value to be awarded to at least one of the player and the at least one other player in accordance with the computed game result. 16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein causing the value to be awarded to the player comprises converting the value from one form to another form. 17 . The method of claim 11 , wherein causing the value to be awarded to the player comprises deducting from the value a fee due to an entity facilitating play of the electronic game. 18 . The method of claim 11 further comprising enabling a balance of an account associated with the player to be viewed or accessed via the computing device operable by the player. 19 . One or more non-transitory computer readable media having program instructions stored thereon which, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to: receive, via a communications interface, a selection by a player of an electronic game; enable the electronic game to be played using a computing device operable by the player; determine a game result based on game play by the player in the selected electronic game; generate metadata representing a game state and outcome; generate a cryptographic hash of the metadata; transmit the hash to a blockchain node for consensus-based inclusion in an immutable ledger; invoke a smart contract deployed on the blockchain, the smart contract being configured to conditionally release a cryptocurrency value based on the validated hash corresponding to the game result; and cause value to be awarded to the player in a cryptocurrency in accordance with the game result, wherein, when executed by the one or more processors, the program instructions further cause the machine to establish a connection with a blockchain to facilitate the value being caused to be awarded to the player in the cryptocurrency. 20 . A system for hosting one or more electronic games, the system comprising: a communications interface; and one or more processors operatively coupled to the communications interface, and configured to: receive, via the communications interface, a selection by a player of an electronic game; enable the electronic game to be played using a computing device operable by the player; determine a game result based on game play by the player in the electronic game; generate metadata representing a game state and outcome; generate a cryptographic hash of the metadata; transmit the hash to a blockchain node for consensus-based inclusion in a
