The present disclosure relates to novel compounds that are capable of inhibiting the mitochondrial pyruvate carrier and promoting hair growth. The disclosure further relates to methods of promoting hair growth or treating conditions or disorders affecting hair growth, such as baldness or alopecia.

The invention claimed is: 1 . A compound represented by a formula: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; wherein R 1 is -, —S(═O) 2 —, an optionally substituted C 1-12 hydrocarbon group or an optionally substituted heterocycle; R 2 is H, an optionally substituted C 1-6 alkyl, an optionally substituted carbocycle, or an optionally substituted heterocycle;  and R 6 is: 2 . The compound of claim 1 , wherein R 6 is: 3 .
