The invention claimed is: 1. An adjustable bed system comprising: a first adjustable foundation comprising a first motor to adjust the first adjustable foundation; a second adjustable foundation comprising a second motor to adjust the second adjustable foundation, the second adjustable foundation configured to be positioned side-by-side with the first adjustable foundation; and a central controller configured to perform operations comprising: receiving an input representing one of a first state or a second state, the first state corresponding to a first configuration of the first and second adjustable foundations arranged to support one or more mattresses, the second state corresponding to a second configuration of the first and second adjustable foundations arranged to support the one or more mattresses, the second configuration different than the first configuration; and operating the first motor and the second motor based on the input according to either the first configuration or the second configuration of the first and second adjustable foundations, wherein the first adjustable foundation comprises a first headboard and a first footboard, wherein the second adjustable foundation comprises a second headboard and a second footboard, wherein the first motor comprises a first headboard motor to adjust the first headboard and a first footboard motor to adjust the first footboard, and wherein the second motor comprises a second headboard motor to adjust the second headboard and a second footboard motor to adjust the second footboard. 2. The adjustable bed system of claim 1 , wherein when the input representing the first state is received by the central controller, the central controller controls the first motor and the second motor based on the received input by performing operations comprising: controlling the first headboard motor to operate in coordination with the second headboard motor; and controlling the first footboard motor to operate in coordination with the second footboard motor. 3. The adjustable bed system of claim 1 , wherein when the input representing the second state is received by the central controller, the central controller controls the first motor and the second motor based on the received input by performing operations comprising: controlling the first headboard motor to operate independently of the second headboard motor; and controlling the first footboard motor to operate independently of the second footboard motor. 4. The adjustable bed system of claim 1 , wherein, in the first state, the central controller is further configured to perform operations comprising i) coordinating operation of the first headboard motor and the second headboard motor so the first headboard and the second headboard operate in unison and ii) coordinating operation of the first footboard motor and the second footboard motor so the first footboard and the second footboard operate in unison. 5. The adjustable bed system of claim 1 , wherein, in the second state, the central controller is further configured to perform operations comprising i) coordinating operation of the first headboard motor and the second headboard motor so the first headboard and the second headboard operate in unison and ii) coordinating operation of the first footboard motor and the second footboard motor so the first footboard and the second footboard operate independently. 6. The adjustable bed system of claim 1 , wherein, in a third state, the central controller is further configured to perform operations comprising i) coordinating operation of the first headboard motor and the second headboard motor so the first headboard and the second headboard operate independently and ii) coordinating operation of the first footboard motor and the second footboard motor so the first footboard and the second footboard operate in unison. 7. The adjustable bed system of claim 6 , wherein the central controller comprises a configuration switch comprising a first position corresponding to the first state and a second position corresponding to the second state, and a third position corresponding to the third state, the third state corresponding to a third configuration of the first and second adjustable foundations arranged to support a split-top mattress, the configuration switch is operable between the first position, the second position, and the third position, the central controller and the configuration switch comprising an electrical circuit configured during an initial setup of the first and second adjustable foundations by a user. 8. The adjustable bed system of claim 1 , wherein, in the first state, the central controller is further configured to perform operations comprising i) coordinating operation of the first headboard motor and the second headboard motor so the first headboard and the second headboard operate independently and ii) coordinating operation of the first footboard motor and the second footboard motor so the first footboard and the second footboard operate independently. 9. The adjustable bed system of claim 1 , further comprising an encoder device coupled to the first headboard motor, the first footboard motor, the second headboard motor, and the second footboard motor, the encoder device configured to perform operations comprising: detecting at least one of an angular position or a motion of one or more of the first headboard, the first footboard, the second headboard, or the second footboard; and transmitting a signal representing one or more of the angular position or the motion of one or more of the first headboard, the first footboard, the second headboard, or the second footboard. 10. The adjustable bed system of claim 9 , wherein the encoder device is a electromechanical device configured to convert the angular position or the motion of one or more of the first headboard, the first footboard, the second headboard, or the second footboard to an analog or digital code. 11. The adjustable bed system of claim 9 , wherein the central controller is further configured to perform operations comprising: receiving the signal representing one or more of the angular position or the motion of one or more of the first headboard, the first footboard, the second headboard, or the second footboard from the encoder device; comparing the angular position or the motion of the first headboard to the angular position or the motion of the second headboard; based on a result of the comparison, determining whether the first headboard is moving at a same speed as the second headboard; and based on determining that the first headboard is not moving at the same speed as the second headboard, generating instructions to speed up or slow down one or more of the first headboard motor and the second headboard motor. 12. The adjustable bed system of claim 11 , wherein the central controller is further configured to perform operations comprising: receiving the signal representing one or more of the angular position or the motion of one or more of the first headboard, the first footboard, the second headboard, or the second footboard from the encoder device; comparing the angular position or the motion of the first headboard to the angular position or the motion of the second headboard; based on a result of the comparison, determining whether the first headboard is at the same position as the second headboard; and based determining that the first headboard is not at the same position as the second headboard, generating instructions to the first headboard motor and the second headboard motor to move one or more of the first headboard or the second headboard to the same position. 13.
