A lacing system configured to selectively adjust the size of an opening on an object and allow for the incremental release of the lace within the lacing system. The lacing system can have a reel comprising a housing, a spool supported by the housing, and a knob supported by the housing. The reel can be configured so that cable is gathered in the channel formed in the spool when the spool is rotated in a first direction relative to the housing, and so that cable can be incrementally released from the spool when the spool is rotated in a second direction relative to the housing. In some embodiments, the reel can include a rotation limiter which can be configured to prevent over-tightening of the lacing system and/or to prevent rotation past the substantially fully loosened state.

What is claimed is: 1. A closure system for tensioning a lace, the closure system comprising: a housing; a spool rotatably positioned within the housing, the spool being rotatable in a first direction to wind the lace about the spool and being rotatable in a second direction to unwind the lace from about the spool; a pawl member that includes at least one pawl; a plurality of teeth configured to engage a distal end of the at least one pawl so that the spool is rotatable in the first direction while substantially impeding the spool from rotating in the second direction; and a rotatable cover comprising a pawl disengagement tab that extends substantially perpendicular to a surface of the cover and a drive tab formed on the cover, the pawl disengagement tab and drive tab having different shapes and orientations about an inner surface of the cover; wherein the pawl disengagement tab is configured to engage the distal end of the at least one pawl and disengage the at least one pawl from the teeth when the cover is rotated in the second direction to allow the spool to rotate in the second direction and thereby unwind the lace from about the spool; and wherein the drive tab is configured to engage the pawl member when the cover is rotated in the first direction to cause the pawl member and spool to rotate in the first direction. 2. The closure system of claim 1 , wherein the pawl disengagement tab is configured to deflect or pivot the at least one pawl radially outward to disengage the at least one pawl from the teeth. 3. The closure system of claim 2 , wherein the spool is freely rotatable in the second direction when the at least one pawl is deflected outward a sufficient amount by the pawl disengagement tab. 4. The closure system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of teeth are positioned above the spool and are oriented so that each tooth faces radially outward. 5. The closure system of claim 1 , wherein the pawl disengagement tab is formed on the inner surface of the cover. 6. The closure system of claim 1 , wherein the drive tab does not engage the distal end of the at least one pawl. 7. The closure system of claim 1 , wherein the drive tab engages a cutout of the pawl member to cause the pawl member to rotate in the first direction. 8. A closure system for tensioning a lace, the closure system comprising: a housing; a spool rotatably positioned within the housing; a pawl member that supports at least one pawl; a plurality of teeth configured to engage the at least one pawl so that the spool is rotatable in a first direction while impeding rotation of the spool in a second direction; and a rotatable cover comprising a first tab that extends from a surface of the cover and a second tab, the first tab having a different shape than the second tab; wherein the first tab is configured to disengage the at least one pawl from the teeth when the cover is rotated in the second direction to allow the spool to rotate in the second direction; and wherein the second tab is configured to engage the pawl member when the cover is rotated in the first direction to cause the pawl member and spool to rotate in the first direction. 9. The closure system of claim 8 , wherein the first tab is configured to deflect or pivot the at least one pawl radially outward to disengage the at least one pawl from the teeth. 10. The closure system of claim 9 , wherein the spool is freely rotatable in the second direction when the at least one pawl is deflected outward a sufficient amount by the first tab. 11. The closure system of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of teeth are positioned above the spool and are oriented so that each tooth faces radially outward. 12. The closure system of claim 8 , wherein the first tab is formed on the cover. 13. The closure system of claim 8 , wherein the second tab does not engage the at least one pawl. 14. The closure system of claim 8 , wherein the second tab engages a cutout of the pawl member to cause the pawl member to rotate in the first direction. 15. A closure system for tensioning a lace, the closure system comprising: a housing; a spool rotatably positioned within the housing; a pawl member that supports at least one pawl; a plurality of teeth configured to engage the at least one pawl so that the spool is rotatable in a first direction while impeding rotation of the spool in a second direction; and a rotatable cover comprising a drive tab and a pawl disengagement tab, the drive tab having a different shape than the pawl disengagement tab; wherein the cover, drive tab, and pawl disengagement tab are arranged such that: when the cover is rotated in the first direction, the drive tab engages the pawl member and causes rotation of the pawl member and spool in the first direction; and when the cover is rotated in the second direction, the pawl disengagement tab contacts the at least one pawl and disengages the at least one pawl from the teeth to allow the spool to rotate in the second direction. 16. The closure system of claim 15 , wherein the pawl disengagement tab is configured to deflect or pivot the at least one pawl radially outward to disengage the at least one pawl from the teeth. 17. The closure system of claim 16 , wherein the spool is freely rotatable in the second direction when the at least one pawl is deflected outward a sufficient amount by the pawl disengagement tab. 18. The closure system of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of teeth are positioned above the spool and are oriented so that each tooth faces radially outward. 19. The closure system of claim 15 , wherein the drive tab and pawl disengagement tab are formed on an inner surface of the cover. 20. The closure system of claim 15 , wherein the drive tab engages a cutout of the pawl member to cause the pawl member to rotate in the first direction.
