Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system that creates an environment for using, transmitting, and storing data from a CEW and other equipment. The information from a CEW includes a log maintained by the CEW. The log may include information related to the operation, maintenance, software, and deployment units used by the CEW. The information may be used alone or in combination with other information received and stored by an evidence management system for managing inventory, generating use-of-force reports, incident reports, and/or providing information related to equipment, such as a CEW, to the supplier of the equipment. Sources of information provided to an evidence management system includes equipment suppliers, CEWs, other cooperating equipment, records management systems of an agency, a dispatch system of an agency, and third parties. A CEW or other equipment may also receive information for storing in the log.

The system of claim 1 wherein the result comprises an amount of charge on a battery of the CEW. 3. The system of claim 1 wherein the result comprises indicia regarding the one or more operations performed by the CEW. 4. The system of claim 1 wherein the result comprises indicia regarding an amount of current provided through the target. 5. The system of claim 1 wherein the analysis includes reading the portion of the information of the log. 6. The system of claim 1 wherein the analysis includes comparing a value of the portion of the information of the log to a threshold. 7. The system of claim 1 wherein the analysis includes performing a computation using a value of the portion of the information of the log. 8. The system of claim 1 wherein the second processing circuit wirelessly transmits the notice to a predetermined person at the agency. 9. The system of claim 1 further comprising the second processing circuit presents on a display of the electronic device the notice to inform the user of the CEW. 10. A method for providing a notice to an agency, the method performed by a system, the system includes a conducted electrical weapon (“CEW”) and an electronic device, the method comprising: the CEW performs: providing energy to a signal generator, a first processing circuit, a memory, and a first short-range communication responsive to detecting movement of a safety to an off position; while the safety is in an off position: delivering a current from the signal generator through a target responsive to an operation of a trigger, the current for impeding locomotion of the target; and storing a log in the memory, the log includes information regarding one or more operations performed by the CEW including delivery of the current through the target and a status of the CEW; continuing for a period of time to provide energy to the first processing circuit, the memory, and a first short-range communication circuit, but not the signal generator responsive to detecting movement of the safety to an on position; during the period of time: operating the first processing circuit, the memory, and the first short-range communication circuit to wirelessly transmit the log from the CEW to the electronic device; and operating a second processing circuit and a second short-range communication circuit to receive the log; and after the electronic device receives the log, the electronic device performs: analyzing at least a portion of the information of the log to determine a result; and responsive to analyzing, transmitting wirelessly by a long-range communication circuit of the electronic device the notice to the agency, the notice includes the result; wherein: the CEW includes the safety, the signal generator, the first processing circuit, the memory, the first short-range communication circuit, and the trigger; the electronic device includes the second processing circuit and the second short-range communication circuit; and the CEW is physically separate from the electronic device. 11. The method of claim 10 wherein the result comprises an amount of charge on a battery of the CEW. 12. The method of claim 10 wherein the result comprises indicia regarding the one or more operations performed by the CEW. 13. The method of claim 10 wherein the result comprises indicia regarding an amount of current provided through the target. 14. The method of claim 10 wherein analyzing comprises reading the portion of the information of the log. 15. The method of claim 10 wherein analyzing comprises comparing a value of the portion of the information of the log to a threshold. 16. The method of claim 10 wherein analyzing comprises performing a computation using a value of the portion of the information of the log. 17. The method of claim 10 wherein transmitting wirelessly by the long-range communication circuit comprises transmitting the notice to a predetermined person at the agency. 18. The method of claim 10 further comprising presenting on a display of the electronic device the notice to inform a user of the CEW. 19. A conducted electrical weapon comprising: a safety; a trigger; a power supply; a signal generator configured to deliver a current; a processing circuit; a memory; and a short-range communication circuit, wherein: in response to the safety being operated to an off position, the conducted electrical weapon is armed and initialized, and the power supply provides energy to the signal generator, in response to the conducted electrical weapon being armed and initialized, the processing circuit records a first information in a log in the memory, the first information regarding one or more functions performed by the conducted electrical weapon, in response to the trigger being operated, the signal generator delivers the current through a target, the processing circuit records a second information in the log in the memory, the second information regarding delivery of the current through the target, in response to the safety being operated to an on position, the power supply provides energy for a period of time to the processing circuit, the memory, and the short-range communication circuit, but not to the signal generator, and during the period of time, the processing circuit, the memory, and the short-range communication circuit cooperate to transmit the log to an electronic device, and the electronic device performs an analysis of at least a portion of the log to determine a result. 20.
