Disclosed herein are methods for treating hair related disorders, including compounds that may be specific or modulate PPAR receptors.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for modulating hair growth in a human subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount to the subject of a composition comprising: N-acetyl-(S)-3-(4-aminophenyl)-2-methoxypropionic acid, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or an N-oxide thereof; and an excipient. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is administered topically. 3. A method for treating hair de-pigmentation or vitiligo in a human subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount to the subject of a composition comprising: N-acetyl-(S)-3-(4-aminophenyl)-2-methoxypropionic acid, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or an N-oxide thereof; and an excipient. 4. A method of stimulating hair growth, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising: N-acetyl-(S)-3-(4-aminophenyl)-2-methoxypropionic acid, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or an N-oxide thereof; and an excipient. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the composition is administered topically. 6. The method of claim 4 or 5 , wherein the composition further comprises a hair stimulating agent. 7. The method of claim 4 or 5 , wherein the method further comprises administering a hair stimulating agent. 8. A method for treating or ameliorating limited hair growth, short hair growth, or hair loss in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount to the subject of a composition comprising: N-acetyl-(S)-3-(4-aminophenyl)-2-methoxypropionic acid, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or an N-oxide thereof; and an excipient. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition further comprises a hair stimulating agent. 10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises administering a hair stimulating agent. 11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is pharmaceutically and/or cosmetically acceptable. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises a hair stimulating agent. 13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises administering a hair stimulating agent. 14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is pharmaceutically and/or cosmetically acceptable. 15. The method of claim 3 , wherein the composition is administered topically. 16. The method of claim 3 , wherein the composition further comprises a hair stimulating agent. 17. The method of claim 3 , wherein the method further comprises administering a hair stimulating agent. 18. The method of claim 3 , wherein the composition is pharmaceutically and/or cosmetically acceptable. 19. The method of claim 4 , wherein the composition is pharmaceutically and/or cosmetically acceptable. 20. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is administered topically. 21. A method for treating or ameliorating alopecia in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount to the subject of a composition comprising: N-acetyl-(S)-3-(4-aminophenyl)-2-methoxypropionic acid, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or an N-oxide thereof; and an excipient. 22. The method of claim 21 , wherein the alopecia is selected from the group consisting of: anagen alopecia, telogen alopecia, and alopecia areata. 23. The method of claim 21 , wherein the composition further comprises a hair stimulating agent. 24. The method of claim 21 , wherein the method further comprises administering a hair stimulating agent. 25. The method of claim 21 , wherein the composition is pharmaceutically and/or cosmetically acceptable. 26. The method of claim 21 , 23 , 24 , or 25 , wherein the composition is administered topically.
