Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A compressor assembly having a high velocity muffler system which produces a particle-free compressor pump feed while reducing noise output from the compressor assembly during compressing operations. The high velocity muffler system is maintenance-free and comprises an inertia filter. The compressor assembly uses a method for producing a compressor pump feed and reducing noise during compressing operations by processing a gas through the high velocity muffler system which has an inertia filter and a muffler chamber to produce a compressor pump feed which can be compressed by a pump assembly.

We claim: 1. A gas feed system for a portable gas compressor assembly, comprising: an inertia filter which filters a feed gas which is fed to at least one muffler, and a pump assembly; wherein said at least one muffler feeds a muffler effluent gas to said pump assembly of said portable gas compressor assembly. 2. The gas fed system according to claim 1 , wherein said feed gas is fed to a plurality of mufflers in series. 3. The gas fed system according to claim 1 , wherein said feed gas is fed to a plurality of cavity mufflers in series. 4. The gas fed system according to claim 1 , wherein said inertia filter is a maintenance-free filter. 5. The gas fed system according to claim 1 , wherein said inertia filter is a stepped inertia filter. 6. The gas fed system according to claim 1 , wherein said feed gas is a particle-free feed stream. 7. The gas fed system according to claim 1 , wherein said effluent gas is fed to a cylinder head of a compressor pump. 8. The gas fed system according to claim 1 , wherein said muffler has a cavity having a sound absorption material. 9. A compressor pump feed system, comprising: an inertia filter which feeds a gas to a feed line; a muffler having a muffler chamber; and a pump assembly; wherein said feed line feeds said gas to at least one of said muffler; wherein said gas exits said muffler as a muffler effluent for compression by said pump assembly. 10. The compressor pump feed system of claim 9 , further comprising a counterflow feed angle. 11. The compressor pump feed system of claim 9 , further comprising a counterflow feed angle in a range of greater than zero to less than 90 degrees. 12. The compressor pump feed system of claim 9 , further comprising a counterflow feed angle in a range of 33 degrees to 75 degrees. 13. The compressor pump feed system of claim 9 , wherein said feed line further comprises a plurality of line angles. 14. The compressor pump feed system of claim 9 , wherein said feed line further comprises a plurality of line angles, at least one of said plurality of line angles having an angle which is different from 90 degrees. 15. The compressor pump feed system of claim 9 , wherein said muffler further comprises a muffler chamber having a minor internal chord and a major internal chord, said major internal chord having a length greater than said minor internal chord. 16. The compressor pump feed system of claim 9 , wherein said muffler further comprises a muffler chamber having a minor internal chord and a major internal chord, and having a ratio of the major internal chord to the minor internal chord which is greater than 1.5. 17. The compressor pump feed system of claim 9 , wherein said muffler further comprises a muffler feed angle measured between a muffler feed centerline and a muffler outlet centerline which is in a range of 66 degrees to 156 degrees. 18. A compressor pump feed system, comprising: an inertia filter having an inertia filter axis having an inertia filter feed angle measured between the inertial filter axis and an air feed flow which is greater than zero degrees and less than 90 degrees. 19. The compressor pump feed system according to claim 18 , wherein said inertia filter feed angle is greater than zero and less than 80 degrees. 20. The compressor pump feed system according to claim 18 , wherein said inertia filter feed angle is in a range of from 33 degrees to 75 degrees.
