The present invention concerns gp19 immunoreactive compositions for E. canis and compositions related thereto, including vaccines, antibodies, polypeptides, peptides, and polynucleotides. In particular, epitopes for E. canis gp19 are disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of inducing an immune response against E. canis in a mammalian subject comprising administering to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising an isolated polypeptide comprising SEQ ID NO: 13 or an amino acid sequence at least 95% identical to SEQ ID NO: 13, wherein the polypeptide is from 24 to 75 amino acids in length. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is a dog. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is a pharmaceutical composition. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the composition is administered parenterally, subcutaneously, intravenously, intradermally, or intramuscularly.
