Official abstract text for this publication.
The present invention relates to a solid pressed air freshener and odor neutralizer composition which can include greater than 10% fragrance. The air freshener comprises a fragrance; preferably the fragrance is impregnated within a water soluble substrate made from a foamed vegetable starch, a surfactant and a solidifier. The solid formulations break down easily in the presence of water and may be sprayed, within the area to be freshened.

What is claimed is: 1. An air freshener and/or odor neutralizer composition comprising: between about 40 wt. % and about 80 wt. % of a fragrance component, wherein said fragrance component is a fragrance within a starch or admixed with a powder carrier; a surfactant; and between about 15 wt. % and about 40 wt. % of a solidifier. 2. The air freshener according to claim 1 wherein the surfactant and solidifier are in a ratio of greater than 1:1 on a percent weight basis. 3. The air freshener according to claim 1 wherein water has been added to form a liquid composition suitable for application via a spray bottle. 4. The air freshener according to claim 1 further comprising a disintegration aid. 5. The air freshener according to claim 1 further comprising an effervescence combination. 6. The air freshener according to claim 1 further comprising a coupler. 7. The air freshener according to claim 1 further comprising a high temperature stabilizer. 8. The air freshener according to claim 1 wherein the surfactant is a polyethylene oxide surfactant. 9. The air freshener according to claim 8 wherein said polyethylene oxide surfactant is has a melting point greater than 30° C. 10. The air freshener of claim 1 wherein said surfactant is a C 8 to C 24 alcohol with from about 20-40 moles of ethoxylate. 11. The air freshener according to claim 1 wherein the surfactant is sodium lauryl sulfate. 12. The air freshener of claim 1 wherein said solidifier is polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of 4000. 13. The air freshener according to claim 1 wherein said fragrance component is said fragrance within a starch and is present in an amount of from about 40-60 wt. %. 14. The air freshener of claim 1 wherein said surfactant is present in an amount of from about 20-50 wt. %. 15. The air freshener of claim 1 wherein said solidifier is present in an amount of from about 20 wt. % to about 35 wt. %. 16. An air freshener composition comprising: a fragrance component of from about 40 wt. % to about 80 wt. %, wherein said fragrance component is a fragrance within a starch or admixed with a powder carrier; a surfactant of from about 20 wt. % to about 50 wt. %; a solidifier of from about 15 wt. % to about 40 wt. % wherein said fragrance component comprises up to about 30% by weight of said fragrance component. 17. The air freshener of claim 16 wherein water has been added to form a liquid composition suitable for application via a spray bottle. 18. The air freshener of claim 16 wherein said fragrance component comprises said fragrance admixed with a powder carrier, wherein said powder carrier is a surfactant. 19. The air freshener of claim 16 wherein the ratio of surfactant to solidifier is greater than 1:1. 20. A liquid air freshener and/or odor neutralizer composition suitable for use in a spray bottle comprising: a solid air freshener including a fragrance component comprising between 40 wt. % to about 80 wt. % of a fragrance within a starch or admixed with a powder carrier, a surfactant and between 15 wt. % to about 40 wt. % of a solidifier; and wherein water has been added to said solid air freshener to form said liquid air freshener composition. 21. The air freshener according to claim 20 wherein the surfactant and solidifier are in a ratio of greater than 1:1 on a percent weight basis. 22. The air freshener according to claim 20 further comprising a disintegration aid. 23. The air freshener according to claim 20 further comprising an effervescence combination. 24. The air freshener according to claim 20 further comprising a coupler. 25. The air freshener according to claim 20 further comprising a high temperature stabilizer. 26. The air freshener according to claim 20 wherein the surfactant is a polyethylene oxide surfactant. 27. The air freshener according to claim 26 wherein said polyethylene oxide surfactant is has a melting point greater than 30° C. 28. The air freshener of claim 26 wherein said surfactant is a C 8 to C 24 alcohol with from about 20-40 moles of ethoxylate. 29. The air freshener according to claim 20 wherein the surfactant is sodium lauryl sulfate. 30. The air freshener of claim 20 wherein said solidifier is polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of 4000. 31. The air freshener according to claim 20 wherein said fragrance component is said fragrance within the starch and is present in an amount of from about 40-60 wt. %. 32. The air freshener of claim 20 wherein said surfactant is present in an amount of from about 20-50 wt. %. 33. The air freshener of claim 20 wherein said solidifier is present in an amount of from about 20 wt. % to about 35 wt. %.
