Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present invention relates to a solid pressed air freshener and odor neutralizer composition which can include greater than 10% fragrance. The air freshener comprises a fragrance; preferably the fragrance is impregnated within a water soluble substrate made from a foamed vegetable starch, a surfactant and a solidifier. The solid formulations break down easily in the presence of water and may be sprayed, within the area to be freshened.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer comprising: between about 40 wt. % and about 80 wt. % of a fragrance component, wherein said fragrance component is a fragrance impregnated within a starch or admixed with a powder carrier; between about 15 wt. % and about 40 wt. % of a solidifier; and a surfactant. 2. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer according to claim 1 wherein the surfactant and solidifier are in a ratio of greater than 1:1 on a percent weight basis. 3. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer according to claim 1 wherein the fragrance component is the fragrance impregnated within a starch. 4. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer according to claim 3 wherein said starch fragrance composition is present in an amount of from about 35-60 wt. %. 5. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer according to claim 1 further comprising a disintegration aid. 6. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer according to claim 1 further comprising an effervescence combination. 7. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer according to claim 1 further comprising a coupler. 8. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer according to claim 1 further comprising a high temperature stabilizer. 9. The solid pressed freshener and/or odor neutralizer according to claim 1 wherein the surfactant is a polyethylene oxide surfactant. 10. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer of claim 9 wherein said polyethylene oxide surfactant has a melting point greater than 30° C. 11. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer of claim 1 wherein said surfactant is a C 8 to C 24 alcohol with from about 20-40 moles of ethoxylate. 12. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer according to claim 1 wherein the powder carrier is sodium lauryl sulfate, and wherein the sodium lauryl sulfate is a surfactant. 13. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer of claim 1 wherein said solidifier is polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of 4000. 14. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer of claim 1 wherein said surfactant is present in an amount of from about 20 wt. % to about 50 wt. 15. The solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer of claim 1 wherein said solidifier is present in an amount of from about 20 wt. % to about 35 wt. %. 16. A solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer composition comprising the solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer of claim 1 and water, wherein the solid pressed air freshener and/or odor neutralizer is dissolved. 17. An air freshener composition comprising: a fragrance component of from about 40 wt. % to about 80 wt. %%, wherein said fragrance component is a fragrance impregnated within a starch or admixed with a powder carrier; a surfactant of from about 20 wt. % to about 50 wt. %; a solidifier of from about 20 wt. % to about 35 wt. %; wherein said fragrance component comprises up to about 30% by weight of fragrance. 18. The air freshener composition claim 17 wherein said fragrance component comprises said fragrance impregnated within said starch. 19. The air freshener composition of claim 17 wherein said fragrance component comprises said fragrance admixed with said powder carrier, wherein said powder carrier is a surfactant. 20. The air freshener composition of claim 17 wherein the ratio of surfactant to solidifier is greater than 1:1.
