Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Provided is a catalyst article for simultaneously remediating the nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter, and gaseous hydrocarbons present in diesel engine exhaust streams. The catalyst article has a soot filter coated with a material effective in the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) of NOx by a reductant, e.g., ammonia.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the SCR catalyst composition permeates the walls. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the SCR catalyst composition is present on the coated wall flow monolith at a concentration of 1.6 to 2.4 g/in 3 . 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the calcining step comprises calcining at a temperature in the range from about 300° C. to about 450° C. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the steps of removing excess aqueous slurry from the inlet passages and removing excess aqueous slurry from the outlet passages comprise one or more of: (i) allowing excess aqueous slurry to drain from the passages; (ii) forcing a compressed gas stream through the passages against the direction of slurry penetration; and (iii) applying a vacuum to the passages. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the step of forcing a compressed gas stream through the passages is accomplished using an air knife. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the steps of removing excess aqueous slurry from the inlet passages comprises forcing a compressed gas stream through the outlet passages and applying a vacuum to the inlet passages. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the steps of removing excess aqueous slurry from the outlet passages comprises forcing a compressed gas stream through the inlet passages and applying a vacuum to the outlet passages. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the steps of immersing the wall flow monolith in the aqueous slurry from a first direction comprises dipping the wall flow monolith into the aqueous slurry to a depth sufficient to coat the inlet passages of the substrate along the entire axial length of the wall flow monolith from the first direction. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the steps of immersing the wall flow monolith in the aqueous slurry from a second direction comprises dipping the wall flow monolith into the aqueous slurry to a depth sufficient to coat the outlet passages of the substrate along the entire axial length of the wall flow monolith from the second direction. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the steps of immersing the wall flow monolith in the aqueous slurry from a first direction to deposit the SCR catalyst composition on the inlet passages and removing excess aqueous slurry from the inlet passages are repeated. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the steps of immersing the wall flow monolith in the aqueous slurry from a second direction, opposite the first direction, to deposit the SCR catalyst composition on the outlet passages and form a coated wall flow monolith and removing excess aqueous slurry from the outlet passages are repeated. 13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising immersing the wall flow monolith in the aqueous slurry from the first direction to deposit a second layer of the SCR catalyst composition on the inlet passages; and immersing the wall flow monolith in the aqueous slurry from the second direction, opposite the first direction, to deposit a second layer of the SCR catalyst composition on the outlet passages. 14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the walls have a porosity of from 55 to 75% and an average pore size of from 10 to 30 microns. 15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wall flow monolith has from about 100 to 400 cells per square inch and a wall thickness between 0.002 and 0.015 inches. 16. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wall flow monolith comprises silicon carbide. 17. The method of claim 1 , wherein the base metal component comprises copper. 18.
