Disclosed are methods and compositions for purifying the non-addictive alkaloid noribogaine.

What is claimed is: 1. An ion exchange resin having noribogaine ionically bound thereto through the anion of noribogaine's phenoxide functional group, wherein the resin is essentially free of ibogaine or the resin comprises ibogaine. 2. The ion exchange of claim 1 , wherein the resin is essentially free of ibogaine. 3. The ion exchange of claim 1 , wherein the resin comprises ibogaine. 4. A composition comprising the ion exchange resin of claim 1 and an aqueous solution of pH 10 or more. 5. A purification column comprising the ion exchange resin of claim 1 .
