The invention claimed is: 1. An isolated nucleic acid sequence encoding canine monomeric C reactive protein (CRP), wherein said nucleic acid sequence encodes the amino acid sequence as set forth in SEQ ID NO: 1. 2. An isolated nucleic acid sequence encoding canine monomeric CRP, wherein the nucleic acid sequence is set forth over the entire length of the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 4. 3. An expression vector comprising the isolated nucleic acid sequence of claim 1 . 4. The expression vector of claim 3 , wherein the isolated nucleic acid sequence is operably linked downstream of a UAS. 5. An expression vector comprising the isolated nucleic acid sequence of claim 2 . 6. The expression vector of claim 5 , wherein the isolated nucleic acid sequence is operably linked downstream of a UAS.
