A locomotive brake controller that has a body configured to interconnect to a desktop location in the cab of a locomotive and a mount that can attach the base of the controller to a vertical stand in the cab of a locomotive. The controller also includes an operator interface adaptor that can be clocked relative to the body and an operator face plate that can be clocked relative to the mount depending on the location of installation to ensure proper tilting of the interface relative to the operator and proper orientation of the operator display. Alternatively, the adaptor may include a fixed face plate that includes a moveable display and an adhesive membrane with operator buttons to properly orient the display.

What is claimed is: 1. A kit for installing a brake controller in a cab of a locomotive in either a desktop or vertical orientation, comprising: a base having a central bracket and a perimeter edge defining a first set of openings configured to attach said base to a desktop location in said locomotive; an adaptor having a lower surface that extends along a first plane and an upper surface that extends along a second plane to define a bevel, wherein said adaptor may be interconnected to said bracket in either a first position, wherein said bevel extends in a first direction, or a second position wherein said bevel extends in a second direction that is at a right angle to said first direction; a face plate for supporting an operator interface interconnected to said adaptor in either of a first position or a second position that is 180 degrees in orientation from said first position; and a vertical mount having an outer frame dimensioned to engage said perimeter edge of said base, wherein said mount includes a second set of openings formed through said outer frame that are configured to attach said base to vertical stand in said locomotive; and a locking pin assembly removably connected to said base and positioned to allow a user to selectively prevent movement of said handle. 2. The kit of claim 1 , wherein said locking pin assembly comprises a housing having an outer surface configured to detachably attach to said base and a locking pin supported within said housing for movement between a first position where said pin engages with and prevents movement of said handle and a second position where said locking pin is disengaged from and allows movement of said handle. 3. The kit of claim 2 , wherein said locking pin is biased toward said second position by a spring positioned within said housing.
