A composition for treating a hard surface. The composition has: (a) at least one adhesion promoter; (b) at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of: anionic, non-ionic, cationic, amphoteric, zwitterionic, and combinations thereof; (c) mineral oil; (d) a blend of linear primary alcohols, wherein each alcohol of said blend includes a carbon chain containing 9 to 17 carbons or an ethoxylated blend thereof; (e) water; (f) optionally, at least one solvent; and wherein the composition is self-adhering upon application to a surface to be treated, and wherein the composition provides a wet film to said surface when water passes over said composition and surface.

First claim

We claim: 1. A composition for treating a hard surface comprising: (a) about 18 to 27 wt. % of at least one adhesion promoter; wherein the at least one adhesion promoter comprises an organic molecule with a hydrophobic residual and a polyethoxy residual including 15 to 55 ethoxy groups; (b) at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of: anionic, nonionic, cationic, amphoteric, zwitterionic, and combinations thereof; wherein the at least one surfactant includes at least about 7.5 wt. % based on the total weight of the composition of at least one nonionic surfactant, which can serve all or in part as the at least one adhesion promoter; (c) from greater than 0 to about 5 wt. % mineral oil; (d) at least about 25 wt. % water; (e) 0 to about 2.0 wt. % of a blend of linear primary alcohols, wherein each alcohol of the blend includes a carbon chain containing 9 to 17 carbons; and (f) optionally, at least one solvent; wherein upon application directly on the hard surface the composition self-adheres thereto through a plurality of flows of water passing over the self-adhering composition and the hard surface. 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the composition comprises about 1 to 12 wt. % glycerin. 3. The composition of claim 1 wherein the hydrophobic residual includes an alkyl group with at least 12 carbon atoms. 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one adhesion promoter further comprises a polysaccharide selected from one or more of xanthan gum, agar, gellan gum, acacia gum, carob bean flour, guar gum, and starch. 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one surfactant comprises at least one anionic surfactant. 6. The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one surfactant comprises at least one cationic surfactant. 7. The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one surfactant comprises at least one zwitterionic surfactant. 8. The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one nonionic surfactant comprises an ethoxylated alcohol, which serves all or in part as the at least one adhesion promoter. 9. The composition of claim 8 wherein the ethoxylated alcohol comprises a C 16-18 ethoxylated alcohol. 10. The composition of claim 8 wherein the ethoxylated alcohol comprises a C 22 thoxylated alcohol. 11. The composition of claim 1 further comprising at least one active agent, wherein the active agent is one or more of a fragrance, germicide, antimicrobial, bleach, or deodorizer. 12. The composition of claim 1 comprising about 18 to 27 wt. % of the at least one nonionic surfactant, which comprises an ethoxylated alcohol; about 0.5 to 3.5 wt. % of the mineral oil; and about 5 to 10 wt. % glycerin; 0 to about 6 wt. % of a fragrance; and at least about 40 wt. % water. 13. The composition of claim 1 wherein the at least one nonionic surfactant comprises an ethoxylated alcohol; and the composition comprises about 18 to 27 wt. % of the ethoxylated alcohol; about 0.5 to 3.5 wt. % of the mineral oil; and at least about 40 wt. % water. 14. A composition for treating a hard surface comprising: (a) about 18 to 27 wt. % of at least one adhesion promoter, which comprises an ethoxylated alcohol, which includes 15 to 55 ethoxy groups; (b) at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of: anionic, nonionic, cationic, amphoteric, zwitterionic, and combinations thereof; wherein the at least one surfactant includes at least about 7.5 wt. % based on the total weight of the composition of at least one nonionic surfactant, which can serve all or in part as the at least one adhesion promoter; (c) about 0.5 to 3.5 wt. % mineral oil; (d) at least about 25 wt. % water; (e) from 0 to about 2.0 wt. % of a blend of linear primary alcohols, wherein each alcohol of the blend includes a carbon chain containing 9 to 17 carbons; and (f) optionally, at least one solvent; wherein upon application directly on the ard surface the composition self-adheres thereto through a plurality of flows of water passing over the self-adhering composition and the hard surface. 15. The composition of claim 14 wherein the at least one nonionic surfactant comprises a C 16-18 ethoxylated alcohol. 16. The composition of claim 14 wherein the at least one surfactant comprises a cationic surfactant. 17. The composition of claim 14 comprising about 18 to 27 wt. % of ethoxylated alcohol; about 0.5 to 3.5 wt. % of the mineral oil; and about 5 to 10 wt. % glycerin; 0 to about 6 wt. % of a fragrance; and at least about 40 wt. % water. 18. The composition of claim 14 wherein the at least one surfactant comprises an alkylpolyglycoside. 19. The composition of claim 18 wherein the alkylpolyglycoside includes an alkyl group containing 8 to 20 carbon atoms, in which the alkyl group is a straight and/or branched chain, saturated and/or unsaturated alkyl group. 20. The composition of claim 14 wherein the composition is a gel having a gel temperature of about 50 to 80° C. 21. The composition of claim 1 wherein the composition is a gel having a gel temperature of about 50 to 80° C. 22. A composition for treating a hard surface comprising: (a) about 15 to 35 wt. % of at least one adhesion promoter comprising an ethoxylated alcohol, which includes 15 to 55 ethoxy groups; (b) at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of: anionic, nonionic, cationic, amphoteric, zwitterionic, and combinations thereof; wherein the at least one surfactant includes at least one nonionic surfactant, which can serve all or in part as the at least one adhesion promoter; (c) from greater than 0 to about 3.5 wt. % mineral oil; (d) at least about 40 wt. % water; (e) from 0 to about 2.0 wt. % of a blend of linear primary alcohols, wherein each alcohol of the blend includes a carbon chain containing 9 to 17 carbons; and (f) at least one solvent, which comprises glycerin; wherein upon application directly on the hard surface the composition self-adheres hereto through a plurality of flows of water passing over the self-adhering composition and the hard surface; and the composition is a gel having a gel temperature of about 50 to 80° C. 23. The composition of claim 22 wherein the composition comprises about 18 to 27 wt. % ethoxylated alcohol and about 1 to 12 wt. % of the glycerin; and the at least one surfactant comprises a cationic surfactant. 24. The composition of claim 22 wherein the composition comprises about 1 to 12 wt. % glycerin; and the at least one adhesion promoter comprises an ethoxylated alcohol having an alkyl chain length of from 16 to 30 carbon atoms and 15 to 55 ethoxy groups. 25. The composition of claim 22 wherein the ethoxylated alcohol comprises C 16-18 ethoxylated alcohol. 26. The composition of claim 22 wherein the at least one surfactant comprises a cationic surfactant.
