A sialylated oligosaccharide selected from the group consisting of: Neu5Acα2-3(Neu5Acα2-6)Galβ1-4Glc; Neu5Acα2-3(Neu5Acα2-6)Galβ1-3GalNAc; Neu5Acα2-3(Neu5Acα2-6)Galβ1-3GlcNAc; and Neu5Acα2-6Galβ1-3GlcNAcβ1-3(Neu5Acα2-6)Galβ1-4Glc. 2. A sialylated oligosaccharide which is Neu5Acα2-6Galβ1-4GlcNAcβ1-3(Neu5Acα2-6)Galβ1-4Glc. 3. A method for treating necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a sialylated oligosaccharide according to claim 1 . 4. A method for treating necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof the sialylated oligosaccharide according to claim 2 .
