Two-part resin-reinforced cement compositions, kits, and related methods are used for bonding a dental prosthetic appliance to a tooth. A first part includes an amine activator component and a zinc oxide reactive filler, while a second part includes a polymerization initiator (e.g., benzoyl peroxide) and a polymerizable component having a structure including at least one acrylate or methacrylate group at one end and a carboxylic acid group at another end. A temporary cement composition advantageously exhibits reduced compressive and/or bonding strength relative to permanent cement compositions, which provides sufficient strength to facilitate normal use of the teeth while the provisional appliance is in use, while also facilitating easy removal of the provisional appliance for replacement with a permanent appliance at a later time.

What is claimed is: 1. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition for bonding a dental prosthetic appliance to a tooth comprising: a first part including an amine activator component and zinc oxide; and a second part including a polymerization initiator that is destabilized when mixed with the amine activator component, the second part further including a polymerizable component having a chemical structure including at least one acrylate or methacrylate group and a carboxylic acid group, wherein mixing the first and second parts initiates curing of the polymerizable component; the zinc oxide and the polymerizable component each being included in an amount so that the zinc oxide reacts with the carboxylic acid group of the polymerizable component upon mixing of the first and second parts so as to further cure the cement composition; at least one of the first or second parts further comprising at least one of a plasticizer or an un-reactive filler in an amount so that the cement composition has a bond strength after being mixed, applied to a tooth, and cured that is not more than about 2.5 MPa. 2. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition as recited in claim 1 , wherein the zinc oxide comprises between about 3 percent and about 50 percent by weight of the composition when mixed. 3. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition as recited in claim 1 , further comprising an un-reactive filler separate from the zinc oxide. 4. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition as recited in claim 1 , the polymerizable component having a structure including at least one of an acrylate or methacrylate group at one end and a carboxylic acid group at another end comprises mono-2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl succinate and/or 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate/phthalic anhydride. 5. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition as recited in claim 1 , further comprising at least one cross-linking polymerizable component. 6. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition as recited in claim 5 , wherein the cross-linking polymerizable component comprises at least one member selected from Bis-GMA, DUDMA, TEGDMA, HEMA, and GDMA. 7. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition as recited in claim 5 , wherein at least one of the cross-linking polymerizable components is phosphated. 8. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition as recited in claim 6 , further comprising HPMA. 9. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition as recited in claim 1 , further comprising water. 10. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition as recited in claim 1 , further comprising at least one colorant. 11. A two-part resin-reinforced temporary cement composition for temporarily bonding a provisional dental prosthetic appliance to a tooth comprising: a first flowable part including an amine activator component, zinc oxide, and liquid plasticizer in order for the first part to be flowable; and a second flowable part including a polymerization initiator that is destabilized when mixed with the amine activator component, the second part further including a polymerizable component having a structure including at least one acrylate or methacrylate group and also a carboxylic acid group, wherein mixing the first and second flowable parts initiates curing of the polymerizable component; the zinc oxide and the polymerizable component each being included in an amount so that the zinc oxide reacts with the carboxylic acid group of the polymerizable component upon mixing of the first and second flowable parts so as to further cure the cement composition; at least one of the first or second flowable parts further comprising at least one of a plasticizer or an un-reactive filler in an amount so that the temporary cement composition has a bonding strength after being mixed, applied to a tooth, and cured that is not greater than about 2.5 MPa. 12. A two-part resin-reinforced temporary cement composition as recited in claim 11 , wherein the zinc oxide comprises between about 3 percent and about 50 percent by weight of the composition when mixed. 13. A two-part resin-reinforced temporary cement composition as recited in claim 11 , wherein the composition comprises a plasticizer which comprises glycerin, a hydrogenated methyl ester of rosin, cetyl alcohol, and/or a polysorbate. 14. A two-part resin-reinforced temporary cement composition as recited in claim 11 , wherein the composition comprises a plasticizer which comprises an aliphatic hydrocarbon. 15. A two-part resin-reinforced cement composition as recited in claim 11 , wherein the polymerizable component having a structure including at least one of an acrylate or methacrylate group at one end and a carboxylic acid group at another end comprises mono-2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl succinate and/or 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate/phthalic anhydride. 16. A two-part resin-reinforced temporary cement composition as recited in claim 11 , further comprising at least one cross-linking polymerizable component. 17. A two-part resin-reinforced temporary cement composition as recited in claim 16 , wherein the cross-linking polymerizable component comprises at least one member selected from Bis-GMA, DUDMA, TEGDMA, HEMA and GDMA. 18. A two-part resin-reinforced temporary cement composition as recited in claim 16 , wherein at least one of the cross-linking polymerizable components is phosphated. 19. A two-part resin-reinforced temporary cement composition as recited in claim 17 , further comprising HPMA. 20. A two-part resin-reinforced temporary cement composition as recited in claim 11 , wherein the plasticizer and/or the un-reactive filler collectively comprise at least about 35 percent by weight of the composition when mixed. 21.
