Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Method and apparatus for a pest control device mounting system configured for mounting pest control devices in a building and using them to control pests. The pest control device mounting system including a mounting bracket, which may have a circumferential portion defining a portal. In some examples, the mounting bracket includes a flange portion suitable for attaching to the perimeter of a cavity in a building surface. The pest control device mounting system including a plug configured to be removably attached to the mounting bracket and to substantially close the portal when attached to the mounting bracket, wherein the plug is configured to accommodate a pest control device.

What is claimed is: 1 . A pest control system, comprising: a mounting bracket connectable to a building surface; a plug removably securable to the mounting bracket; a pest control device connected to the plug, the pest control device comprising: a bait bar including a first end portion and a second end portion opposite the first end portion; a post connected to the plug, the post including a bait bar receptacle configured to receive at least a portion of the first end portion of the bait bar; and a locking mechanism connected to the plug and configured to lock the bait bar to the pest control device; and an indicator configured to transmit an alert signal when the pest control device is engaged by a pest. 2 . The pest control system of claim 1 , comprising: a sensor configured to transmit a detection signal to the indicator when the pest control device is engaged by a pest. 3 . The pest control system of claim 2 , wherein the indicator is a visual indicator configured to emit one or more lights based on the detection signal. 4 . The pest control system of claim 2 , wherein the indicator is configured to transmit the alert signal to a building management system based on the detection signal. 5 . The pest control system of claim 2 , wherein the sensor is configured to generate the detection signal based on activation of a trap within the pest control device. 6 . The pest control system of claim 1 , wherein the first end portion of the bait bar is retained in the bait bar receptacle when a locking portion of the bait bar is engaged with the locking mechanism. 7 . The pest control system of claim 6 , wherein the locking portion of the bait bar includes a hook portion. 8 . The pest control system of claim 6 , wherein the bait bar is configured to pivot between a locked configuration and an unlocked configuration in the pest control device. 9 . A pest control system, comprising: a mounting bracket connectable to a building surface; a plug removably securable to the mounting bracket; a pest control device connected to the plug, the pest control device comprising: a bait bar including a first end portion and a second end portion opposite the first end portion; a post connected to the plug, the post including a bait bar receptacle configured to receive at least a portion of the first end portion of the bait bar; and a locking mechanism connected to the plug and configured to releasably lock the bait bar to the pest control device; and a sensor in communication configured to generate a detection signal based on engagement of the pest control device by a pest. 10 . The pest control system of claim 9 , comprising: an indicator in communication with the sensor, the indicator configured to transmit an alert signal based on the detection signal. 11 . The pest control system of claim 10 , wherein the indicator is configured to transmit the alert signal to a building management system based on the detection signal. 12 . The pest control system of claim 11 , wherein the indicator is a sound indicator configured to emit one or more sounds based on the detection signal. 13 . The pest control system of claim 10 , wherein the indicator is configured to transmit the alert signal to a building management system based on the detection signal. 14 . The pest control system of claim 9 , wherein the bait bar includes: a bait support section disposed between the first end portion and the second end portion of the bait bar. 15 . The pest control system of claim 9 , wherein the bait bar comprises metal. 16 . The pest control system of claim 9 , wherein the bait bar includes metal and has a linear portion for holding bait and a hooked portion for locking with the locking mechanism. 17 . A pest control system, comprising: a mounting bracket connectable to a building surface; a plug removably securable to the mounting bracket; a pest control device connected to the plug, the pest control device comprising: a bait bar including a first end portion and a second end portion opposite the first end portion; a post connected to the plug, the post including a bait bar receptacle configured to receive at least a portion of the first end portion of the bait bar; and a locking mechanism connected to the plug and configured to releasably lock the bait bar to the pest control device; a sensor in communication configured to generate a detection signal based on engagement of the pest control device by a pest; and an indicator configured to transmit an alert signal based on the detection signal. 18 . The pest control system of claim 17 , wherein the indicator is configured to transmit the alert signal to a building management system based on the detection signal. 19 . The pest control system of claim 18 , wherein the indicator is a visual indicator configured to emit one or more lights based on the detection signal. 20 . The pest control system of claim 18 , wherein the indicator is a sound indicator configured to emit one or more sounds based on the detection signal.
