What is claimed is: 1 . A method for delivering author specific content, comprising: identifying any content on multiple online resources that appears to have been generated by a specific identified author; determining whether to authenticate authorship of the content and selectively authenticating content that appears to have been generated by the specific identified author as actually being generated by that author; delivering to a subscribing user, via an activity stream, an indication of the content identified as being by the specific identified author from the multiple online resources; and storing an author database that stores an identification of a first author along with a string provided by a content site having content generated by the first author, the string identifying a key that encrypts the first author's identification and the Universal Resource Locator (URL) of the content site. 2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising crawling open content across the multiple online resources, wherein crawling the open content across the multiple online resources includes searching for signed, author-specific content. 3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining whether to authenticate authorship of the content based on whether the content is found on a trusted or untrusted site, wherein authorship for content found on an untrusted site is authenticated 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein authenticating the content includes using a digital signature to authenticate the content as being generated by the specific identified author. 5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein delivering information to the subscribing user via the activity stream includes delivering the content from a social network to the subscribing user who is not a member of the social network. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the activity stream is customized based on user input. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein an author of the content is selected from a group consisting of an individual, a corporation, an organization and a service. 8 . A method for delivering author specific content, comprising: crawling open content across the multiple online resources; identifying content in any of the multiple online resources that appears to have been generated by a specific identified author; determining whether the content is from an online resource that is trusted, based on a trust policy; authenticating that the author who allegedly generated the content is the author of the content if the online resource is not trusted under the trust policy; delivering to a subscribing user, via an activity stream, an indication of the content identified as being by the specific identified author from the multiple online resources; and storing an author database that stores an identification of a first author along with a string provided by a content site having content generated by the first author, the string identifying a key that encrypts the first author's identification and the Universal Resource Locator (URL) of the content site. 9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the trust policy considers a uniform resource locator (URL) of an online resource containing the content. 10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the trust policy considers a digital signature from an author of the content. 11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the trust policy considers whether an alleged identity of an author of the content is presented by an online resource containing the content. 12 . The method of claim 8 , wherein authenticating that the apparent author is the author of the content includes using a digital signature to authenticate the content as being generated by the specific identified author. 13 . A method for delivering author specific content, comprising: crawling open content across multiple online resources to identify content that appears to have been generated by a specific author; and building an author database that stores an identification of a first author along with a string provided by a content site having content generated by the first author, the string identifying a key that encrypts the first author's identification and the Universal Resource Locator (URL) of the content site. 14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising determining whether the content is trusted as content generated by the specific author based on a trust policy; and authenticating who is author of the content if the content fails to qualify as trusted content according to the trust policy. 15 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving input from a user that registers the user and identifies a specific author that the user wants to follow. 16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising generating an activity stream based on the user input to notify the registered user of content from the multiple online resources generated by the specific author. 17 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising dynamically delivering ongoing updates about content discovered by the crawling that was generated by the specific author via the activity stream. 18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the delivering of ongoing updates is performed by at least one of email, text message, or voice mail. 19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the delivering of ongoing updates is performed using posts on a webpage. 20 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising: registering authors with the author database; and accepting input from registered authors
