Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An abrasive grain is disclosed and may include a body. The body may define a length (l), a height (h), and a width (w). In a particular aspect, the length is greater than or equal to the height and the height is greater than or equal to the width. Further, in a particular aspect, the body may include a primary aspect ratio defined by the ratio of length:height of at least about 2:1. The body may also include an upright orientation probability of at least about 50%.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1 . A shaped abrasive grain comprising: a body having a first end face, a second end face and a K-shaped first side face extending between the first end face and the second end face. 2 . The abrasive grain of claim 1 , wherein the second end face is flat. 3 . The abrasive grain of claim 2 , wherein the body comprises a third face extending between the first end face and the second end face, and wherein the third face is flat. 4 . The abrasive grain of claim 2 , wherein the body comprises a fourth face extending between the first end face and the second end face, and wherein the fourth face is flat. 5 . The abrasive grain of claim 2 , wherein the body comprises an opening extending into the interior of the body. 6 . The abrasive grain of claim 5 , wherein the opening extends along a longitudinal axis of the body. 7 . The abrasive grain of claim 5 , wherein the opening extends along a lateral axis of the body. 8 . The abrasive grain of claim 5 , wherein the opening extends along a vertical axis of the body. 9 . The abrasive grain of claim 5 , wherein the opening extends through the entire interior of the body. 10 . The abrasive grain of claim 5 , wherein the opening has a constant cross-sectional dimension. 11 . The abrasive grain of claim 1 , wherein the second end face is K shaped. 12 . The abrasive grain of claim 11 , wherein the body comprises a third face extending between the first end face and the second end face, and wherein the third face is flat. 13 . The abrasive grain of claim 11 , wherein the body comprises a fourth face extending between the first end face and the second end face, and wherein the fourth face is flat. 14 . The abrasive grain of claim 11 , wherein the body comprises an opening extending into the interior of the body. 15 . The abrasive grain of claim 14 , wherein the opening extends along a longitudinal axis of the body. 16 . The abrasive grain of claim 14 , wherein the opening extends along a lateral axis of the body. 17 . The abrasive grain of claim 14 , wherein the opening extends along a vertical axis of the body. 18 . The abrasive grain of claim 14 , wherein the opening extends through the entire interior of the body. 19 . The abrasive grain of claim 14 , wherein the opening has a constant cross-sectional dimension. 20 . The abrasive grain of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises an opening extending into the interior of the body, wherein the opening has a square cylinder shape.
