A new fast curing resin composition having unique properties in some automotive related applications.

1 . A resin composition comprising, based on total weight of the resin composition, a. one or more epoxy resins; b. a hardener; c. a toughening agent; and d. a catalyst comprising a lower alkyl zinc carboxylate. 2 . The resin composition of claim 1 , comprising, based on total weight of the resin composition, a. 20-60 wt % of the one or more epoxy resins; b. 30-70 wt % of the hardener; c. 1-25 wt % of the toughening agent; and d. 0.5-8 wt % of the lower alkyl zinc carboxylate catalyst. 3 . The resin composition of claim 1 , wherein the lower alkyl zinc carboxylate has a chemical structure of Zn(O 2 CR 1 R 2 R 3 )2×Y H 2 O, where R 1 R 2 R 3 can independently be H or C 1 -C 4 alkyl radicals to maximum of Cs total, and Y can be 0-6. 4 . The resin composition of claim 1 wherein the catalyst comprises zinc acetate. 5 . The resin composition of claim 1 , wherein the catalyst comprises a zinc acetate-imidazole complex. 6 . The resin composition of claim 5 wherein the complex is prepared by dissolving zinc acetate in an excess amount of imidazole. 7 . The resin composition of claim 1 , wherein the imidazole is one of 1-methyl-, 1-benzyl-2-methyl-, 2-phenyl-, 2-methyl-, 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazoles, or mixture thereof. 8 . A cured composition made from the resin composition of claim 1 . 9 . A reinforced composite made from the resin composition of claim 1 .
