Disclosed are compounds and methods of making said compounds comprising a zinc oxide molecule chemically bound to one or more molecules having an acidic hydrogen, such as an organic acid. The invention also provides compositions comprising such compounds and methods of preparing such compounds. The compounds of the invention may be provided in, for example, topical skin formulations, pharmaceutical compositions, or delivery systems for active ingredients.

An acid molecule/zinc oxide complex having the formula of: wherein R 1 is hydrogen or a zinc oxide complex, R 2 is hydrogen or a zinc oxide complex, R 3 is hydrogen or a zinc oxide complex, and R 4 is hydrogen or a zinc oxide complex, wherein at least one of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , or R 4 is a zinc oxide complex. 2 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 1 , wherein the acid molecule/zinc oxide complex is a malic acid/zinc oxide complex having the formula of: wherein at least one of R 1 , R 2 , or R 3 , is a zinc oxide complex. 3 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 1 , wherein the acid molecule/zinc oxide complex is a kojic acid/zinc oxide complex having the formula of: wherein at least one of R 1 or R 2 is a zinc oxide complex. 4 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 1 , wherein the acid molecule/zinc oxide complex is a hydroxyproline/zinc oxide complex having the formula of: wherein at least one of R 1 or R 2 is a zinc oxide complex. 5 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 1 , wherein the acid molecule/zinc oxide complex is an ascorbic acid/zinc oxide complex having the formula of: wherein at least one of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , or R 4 is a zinc oxide complex. 6 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 1 , wherein the acid molecule/zinc oxide complex is an oleic acid/zinc oxide complex having the formula of: wherein R 1 is a zinc oxide complex. 7 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 1 , wherein the acid molecule/zinc oxide complex is an azelaic acid/zinc oxide complex having the formula of: wherein at least one of R 1 or R 2 is a zinc oxide complex. 8 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 1 , wherein the complex is in crystal form. 9 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 1 , wherein the complex is in amorphous form. 10 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 1 , wherein the complex is comprised in a topical skin composition. 11 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 10 , wherein the topical skin composition is a cream, lotion, or gel. 12 . The acid molecule/zinc oxide complex of claim 10 , wherein the topical skin composition is an emulsion. 13 . A lactic acid/zinc oxide complex having the formula of: 14 . The lactic acid/zinc oxide complex of claim 13 , wherein the complex is in crystal form. 15 . The lactic acid/zinc oxide complex of claim 13 , wherein the complex is in amorphous form. 16 . The lactic acid/zinc oxide complex of claim 13 , wherein the complex is comprised in a topical skin composition. 17 . The lactic acid/zinc oxide complex of claim 16 , wherein the topical skin composition is a cream, lotion, or gel. 18 . The lactic acid/zinc oxide complex of claim 16 , wherein the topical skin composition is an emulsion. 19 . A vulcanizing accelerator/zinc oxide complex, wherein the vulcanizing accelerator is a disulfide molecule, a dithiocarbamate molecule, a thiuram molecule, or an alkylphenoldisulfide molecule. 20 . The complex of claim 19 , wherein the vulcanizing accelerator is a disulfide. 21 . The complex of claim 19 , wherein the vulcanizing accelerator is a dithiocarbamate. 22 . The complex of claim 19 , wherein the vulcanizing accelerator is a thiuram. 23 . The complex of claim 19 , wherein the vulcanizing accelerator is an alkylphenoldisulfide. 24 .
