Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Disclosed herein are embodiments of an enhanced resonant frequency hexagonal ferrite material and methods of manufacturing. The hexagonal ferrite material can be Y-phase hexagonal ferrite material, such as those including strontium. In some embodiments, oxides consistent with the stoichiometry of Sr 3 Co 2 Fe 24 O 41 , SrFe 12 O 19 or CoFe 2 O 4 can be used form an enhanced hexagonal ferrite material.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method for incorporating additional oxides to increase the magnetic properties of a hexagonal ferrite, the method comprising: providing a y-phase hexagonal ferrite material; and incorporating an oxide consistent with the stoichiometry of Sr 3 Co 2 Fe 24 O 41 , SrFe 12 O 19 or CoFe 2 O 4 to form an enhanced hexagonal ferrite material. 2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the enhanced hexagonal ferrite material is a single phase. 3 . The method of claim 1 wherein the enhanced hexagonal ferrite material is two distinct phases. 4 . The method of claim 1 wherein the Y-phase hexagonal ferrite material includes Sr 1.6 Na 0.4 Co 1.6 Sc 0.4 Fe 11 O 22 . 5 . The method of claim 1 wherein the oxide includes CoFe 2 O 4 . 6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the oxide includes SrFe 12 O 19 . 7 . The method of claim 1 wherein 2 wt. % of the oxide is incorporated into the y-phase hexagonal ferrite material. 8 . The method of claim 1 wherein the enhanced hexagonal ferrite material has a Q value of greater than about 20 at 800 MHz. 9 . The method of claim 1 wherein the enhanced hexagonal ferrite material has a Q value of greater than about 15 at 1 GHz. 10 . The method of claim 1 wherein the enhanced hexagonal ferrite material has a permeability of between 6 and 8 from 800 MHz to 1 GHz. 11 . The method of claim 1 wherein the enhanced hexagonal ferrite material has a dielectric constant of about 10-11. 12 . An enhanced hexagonal ferrite having increased magnetic properties, the enhanced hexagonal ferrite comprising: a y-phase hexagonal ferrite material, the y-phase hexagonal ferrite material having an oxide consistent with the stoichiometry of Sr 3 Co 2 Fe 24 O 41 , SrFe 12 O 19 or CoFe 2 O 4 incorporated within. 13 . The hexagonal ferrite of claim 12 wherein the enhanced hexagonal ferrite material is a single phase. 14 . The hexagonal ferrite of claim 12 wherein the Y-phase hexagonal ferrite material includes Sr 1.6 Na 0.4 CO 1.6 Sc 0.4 Fe 11 O 22 . 15 . The hexagonal ferrite of claim 12 wherein the oxide includes CoFe 2 O 4 or SrFe 12 O 19 . 16 . The hexagonal ferrite of claim 12 wherein the enhanced hexagonal ferrite material has a Q value of greater than about 15 at 1 GHz, a permeability of between 6 and 8 from 800 MHz to 1 GHz, and a dielectric constant of about 10-11. 17 . A radiofrequency antenna for use in high frequency applications comprising: a y-phase hexagonal ferrite material, the y-phase hexagonal ferrite material having an oxide consistent with the stoichiometry of Sr 3 Co 2 Fe 24 O 41 , SrFe 12 O 19 or CoFe 2 O 4 incorporated within to form an enhanced hexagonal ferrite material. 18 .
