Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Described is a medicament container carrier adapted to hold a first medicament container having a first predetermined size and capable of containing more than a first volume of a medicament. The container carrier comprises a body, and an adapter coupled to the body. The adapter is adapted to hold a second medicament container having a second predetermined size different from the first predetermined size and capable of containing no more than the first volume of the medicament.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method comprising: distally moving a translucent syringe support of an auto-injector within a syringe carrier of the auto-injector while slidably engaging a first abutment surface of the translucent syringe support to an inner surface of the syringe carrier such that a syringe disposed in the translucent syringe support moves from a proximal position to a distal position, the translucent syringe support and the syringe configured such that (i) proximal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe support is limited by an engagement between diametrically-opposite sides of a proximal flange of the syringe and a second abutment surface of a proximal portion of the translucent syringe support, and (ii) distal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe support is limited while a distal side of the proximal flange of the syringe is proximally spaced from the translucent syringe support; and after distally moving the translucent syringe support from the proximal position to the distal position, distally moving a stopper of the syringe within a barrel of the syringe to dispense a medicament through a distal needle of the syringe. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the diametrically-opposite sides of the proximal flange of the syringe remain engaged to the second abutment surface while the stopper is distally moved within the barrel of the syringe to dispense the medicament through the distal needle of the syringe. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein a relative rotation between the syringe and the syringe carrier is limited while the stopper is distally moved within the barrel of the syringe to dispense the medicament through the distal needle of the syringe. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the relative rotation between the syringe and the syringe carrier is limited by a third abutment surface of the translucent syringe support while the stopper is distally moved within the barrel of the syringe to dispense the medicament through the distal needle of the syringe. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the third abutment surface is perpendicular to the second abutment surface and extends directly from the second abutment surface. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein a relative rotation between the syringe and the translucent syringe support is limited while the stopper is distally moved within the barrel of the syringe to dispense the medicament through the distal needle of the syringe. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the medicament dispensed through the distal needle of the syringe has a volume of less than 2 milliliters. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the proximal flange of the syringe comprises one or more circular portions. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the translucent syringe support has a lateral opening. 10. A method comprising: distally moving a translucent syringe support of an auto-injector within a syringe carrier of the auto-injector while slidably engaging a first abutment surface of the translucent syringe support to an inner surface of the syringe carrier such that a syringe disposed in the translucent syringe support moves from a proximal position to a distal position, the translucent syringe support and the syringe configured such that (i) proximal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe support is limited by an engagement between a proximal flange of the syringe and a second abutment surface of a proximal portion of the translucent syringe support, and (ii) distal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe support is limited; and after distally moving the translucent syringe support from the proximal position to the distal position, distally moving a stopper of the syringe within a barrel of the syringe to dispense a medicament through a distal needle of the syringe. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein diametrically-opposite sides of the proximal flange of the syringe are engaged to the second abutment surface to limit proximal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe support. 12. The method of claim 10 , wherein distal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe support is limited while a distal side of the proximal flange of the syringe is proximally spaced from the translucent syringe support. 13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first abutment surface of the translucent syringe support is formed on an outer-most surface of the translucent syringe support, the outer-most surface surrounding a portion of the proximal flange of the syringe. 14. The method of claim 10 , wherein a distal end of the distal needle is distal to a distal end of the syringe carrier when the translucent syringe support is in the distal position. 15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the distal end of the distal needle is proximal to the distal end of the syringe carrier when the translucent syringe support is in the proximal position. 16. The method of claim 10 , wherein the medicament dispensed through the distal needle of the syringe has a volume of less than 2 milliliters. 17. The method of claim 16 , comprising injecting the volume of less than 2 milliliters of the medicament into an injection site. 18. The method of claim 10 , wherein a first relative rotation between the syringe and the translucent syringe support is limited while the stopper is distally moved within the barrel of the syringe to dispense the medicament through the distal needle of the syringe. 19. The method of claim 18 , wherein a second relative rotation between the syringe and the syringe carrier is limited while the first relative rotation between the syringe and the translucent syringe support is limited. 20. A method comprising: distally moving a translucent syringe support of an auto-injector within a syringe carrier of the auto-injector such that a syringe disposed in the translucent syringe support moves from a proximal position to a distal position while a proximal flange of the syringe is retained in the translucent syringe support; and after distally moving the translucent syringe support from the proximal position to the distal position, distally moving a stopper of the syringe within a barrel of the syringe to dispense a medicament through a distal needle of the syringe, wherein a first surface portion on a proximal side of the proximal flange of the syringe is engaged to an abutment surface of the translucent syringe support while the proximal flange of the syringe is retained in the translucent syringe support. 21. The method of claim 20 , wherein the proximal flange of the syringe comprises one or more circular sections connected by two straight sections. 22. The method of claim 20 , wherein the first surface portion is on a straight section of the proximal flange of the syringe. 23. The method of claim 20 , wherein a second surface portion on the proximal side of the proximal flange of the syringe is not engaged to the abutment surface of the translucent syringe support while the proximal flange of the syringe is retained in the translucent syringe support. 24. The method of claim 23 , wherein the second surface portion is on a circular section of the proximal flange of the syringe. 25. The method of claim 23 , wherein the first and second surface portions are circumferentially disposed on the proximal flange of the syringe at approximately 90° relative to one another. 26. The
