Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Described is a medicament container carrier adapted to hold a first medicament container having a first predetermined size and capable of containing more than a first volume of a medicament. The container carrier comprises a body, and an adapter coupled to the body. The adapter is adapted to hold a second medicament container having a second predetermined size different from the first predetermined size and capable of containing no more than the first volume of the medicament.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method of assembling an auto-injector, the method comprising: inserting a proximal flange of a syringe into a translucent syringe holder of the auto-injector to limit proximal and distal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe holder by at least partially surrounding diametrically opposite sides of the proximal flange of the syringe with a proximal portion of the translucent syringe holder such that (i) one or more first abutment surfaces defined by the proximal portion of the translucent syringe holder engage diametrically opposite sides of the proximal flange of the syringe to limit proximal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe holder, (ii) a distal side of the proximal flange of the syringe is proximally spaced from the translucent syringe holder while distal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe holder is limited, and (iii) a distal portion of the translucent syringe holder at least partially surrounds a barrel of the syringe; and distally inserting the translucent syringe holder into a syringe carrier of the auto-injector such that a second abutment surface of the translucent syringe holder on an outer surface of the translucent syringe holder slidably engages an inner surface of the syringe carrier, wherein after the proximal flange of the syringe is disposed within the syringe carrier, the auto-injector is configured to dispense a medicament through a distal needle of the syringe when a stopper of the syringe moves distally within the barrel of the syringe and relative to the translucent syringe holder and the syringe carrier. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein distally inserting the translucent syringe holder into the syringe carrier is performed after inserting the proximal flange of the syringe into the translucent syringe holder. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein distally inserting the translucent syringe holder into the syringe carrier is performed before inserting the proximal flange of the syringe into the translucent syringe holder. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein one or more third abutment surfaces of the translucent syringe holder limit proximal movement of the translucent syringe holder relative to the syringe carrier after the proximal flange of the syringe is disposed within the syringe carrier. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein a fourth abutment surface of the translucent syringe holder limits distal movement of the translucent syringe holder relative to the syringe carrier after the proximal flange of the syringe is disposed within the syringe carrier. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the syringe contains a volume of the medicament greater than 0 millimeters and less than 2 milliliters. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein after inserting the proximal flange of the syringe into the translucent syringe holder, a distal end of the syringe is distal to a distal end of the translucent syringe holder and a portion of the syringe is radially inward of the distal portion of the translucent syringe holder. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein after inserting the proximal flange of the syringe into the translucent syringe holder, the distal side of the proximal flange of the syringe is distal to a proximal end of the translucent syringe holder. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein after inserting the proximal flange of the syringe into the translucent syringe holder, a proximal end of the translucent syringe holder is proximal to a proximal end of the syringe. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the proximal flange of the syringe comprises two arc sections connected by two straight sections. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein after the proximal flange of the syringe is disposed within the translucent syringe carrier, rotation of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe holder is limited by a fifth abutment surface of the translucent syringe holder. 12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the fifth abutment surface directly extends from and is perpendicular to the one or more first abutment surfaces. 13. The method of claim 12 , wherein after the proximal flange of the syringe is disposed within the syringe carrier, the translucent syringe holder limits relative rotation between the syringe and the syringe carrier. 14. A method of assembling an auto-injector, the method comprising: inserting a proximal flange of a syringe into a translucent syringe holder of the auto-injector to limit proximal and distal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe holder such that a first abutment surface of a proximal portion of the translucent syringe holder engages a proximal side of the proximal flange of the syringe to limit proximal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe holder; and distally inserting the translucent syringe holder into a syringe carrier of the auto-injector such that a second abutment surface on an outer surface of the translucent syringe holder slidably engages an inner surface of the syringe carrier, wherein after the proximal flange of the syringe is disposed within the syringe carrier, the auto-injector is configured to dispense a medicament through a distal needle of the syringe when a stopper of the syringe moves distally within a barrel of the syringe and relative to the translucent syringe holder and the syringe carrier. 15. The method of claim 13 , wherein distally inserting the translucent syringe holder into the syringe carrier is performed after inserting the proximal flange of the syringe into the translucent syringe holder. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein distally inserting the translucent syringe holder into the syringe carrier is performed before inserting the proximal flange of the syringe into the translucent syringe holder. 17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the proximal flange of the syringe is inserted into the translucent syringe holder such that the first abutment surface engages two diametrically opposite sides of the proximal side of the proximal flange of the syringe to limit proximal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe holder. 18. The method of claim 14 , wherein after inserting the proximal flange into the translucent syringe holder, a distal side of the proximal flange of the syringe is proximally spaced from the translucent syringe holder. 19. The method of claim 18 , wherein distal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe holder is limited when the proximal flange of the syringe is proximally spaced from the translucent syringe holder. 20. The method of claim 14 , wherein the proximal flange of the syringe is inserted into the translucent syringe holder such that a distal portion of the translucent syringe holder at least partially surrounds the barrel of the syringe. 21. The method of claim 13 , wherein the syringe contains a volume of the medicament greater than 0 millimeters and less than 2 milliliters. 22. A method of assembling an auto-injector, the method comprising: inserting a proximal flange of a syringe into a translucent syringe holder of the auto-injector to limit proximal and distal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe holder such that a first abutment surface of a proximal portion of the translucent syringe holder engages a proximal side of the proximal flange of the syringe to limit proximal movement of the syringe relative to the translucent syringe holder, the syringe containing a volume of a medicament great
