The invention claimed is: 1. A centrifugal pump for transporting fish, the centrifugal pump having an axially directed inlet, a radially directed outlet, and an impeller, the impeller comprising: a base that is concentric relative to a rotational axis of the impeller; and an impeller body formed as at least one oblique cone having an eccentric apex and a smooth outer surface, the at least one oblique cone extending from the base. 2. The pump of claim 1 further comprising a tubular shroud having an upstream open end and a downstream open end defining an annular outflow opening with the base, wherein the tubular shroud is imparted with a smooth, curved inner surface. 3. The pump of claim 2 , wherein the tubular shroud is imparted with a flaring shape defined by a larger diameter at the annular outflow opening and a smaller diameter at an inflow opening. 4. The pump of claim 1 , wherein the impeller body has at least one vane extending from the base toward the eccentric apex. 5. The pump of claim 4 , wherein the at least one vane spirals at least partly around the impeller body. 6. The pump of claim 4 , wherein the at least one vane spirals at least 180 degrees around the impeller body. 7. The pump of claim 4 , wherein the at least one vane spirals at least 270 degrees around the impeller body. 8. The pump of claim 1 , wherein the impeller body includes a plurality of trailing edges extending from the base toward the eccentric apex. 9. The pump of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of trailing edges are symmetrically arranged relative to the rotational axis of the impeller. 10. The pump of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of trailing edges are symmetrically arranged 180 degrees around the impeller body. 11. A pump for transporting fish, the pump having an impeller with an impeller body, wherein the impeller comprises: a concentric base relative to a rotational axis of the impeller; and an oblique cone having an eccentric apex, at least one ridge, and a smooth outer surface, the oblique cone extending from the base, the rotational axis extending through the oblique cone, wherein the at least one ridge spirals down from the eccentric apex to the base. 12. The pump of claim 11 , wherein the oblique cone is adjacent to, and offset from, a smooth inner surface of a shroud. 13. The pump of claim 12 , wherein the shroud is radially symmetrical in a manner corresponding to a rotational path of the impeller body. 14. The pump of claim 12 , wherein the shroud is imparted with a flared shape. 15. The pump of claim 12 , wherein the shroud is concentric with and spaced apart from the base. 16. The pump of claim 12 , wherein the at least one ridge is sized and shaped to maintain an offset distance from the inner surface of the shroud along a length of the at least one ridge over an entire 360 degree rotation of the impeller. 17. The pump of claim 11 , wherein the at least one ridge is provided in the form of two ridges that are disposed at diametrically opposite positions on the impeller body. 18. The pump of claim 11 , further comprising a groove provided on a front side of the at least one ridge, the groove spiraling at least partially down a length of the ridge to the base. 19. A pump for transporting fish, the pump having an axially directed inlet, a radially directed outlet, and an impeller, the impeller comprising: a concentric impeller base relative to a rotational axis of the impeller; a tapered impeller body extending from the impeller base, the impeller body forming an eccentric apex and defining a smooth exterior surface, the rotational axis extending through the impeller body; and two vanes extending from the impeller base toward the eccentric apex, wherein the two vanes are provided at diametrically opposite positions on the impeller body. 20. The impeller of claim 19 , wherein both of the two vanes spiral at least 180 degrees around the impeller body.
