Official abstract text for this publication.
A method and apparatus for controlling transmit power in a wireless local area network (WLAN). For example, a station may receive, from an access point (AP), a beacon frame that includes a field indicating a maximum transmission power for at least one of a plurality of operational bandwidth that the AP supports. The station may determine a transmission power for a signal to be transmitted to the AP based on the at least one of the plurality of operational bandwidths indicated in the received beacon. The station may then transmit the signal at the determined transmission power.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for use in a station (STA), the method comprising: receiving, from an access point (AP), an information element that indicates one or more maximum transmission powers associated with a plurality of operational bandwidths that the STA supports; and transmitting, to the AP, a signal in an operational bandwidth that the STA supports at a transmission power determined based on the indicated one or more maximum transmission powers in the received information element. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of operational bandwidths includes at least a 20 MHz channel bandwidth and a 40 MHz channel bandwidth. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information element is included in a received beacon frame. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of operational bandwidths includes simultaneously operable bandwidths. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: transmitting, to the AP, a probe request frame that includes an indicator indicating a plurality of operational bandwidths that the STA supports. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the information element is included in a received probe response frame. 7. A station (STA) comprising: a receiver configured to receive, from an access point (AP), an information element that indicates one or more maximum transmission powers associated with a plurality of operational bandwidths that the STA supports; and a transmitter configured to transmit, to the AP, a signal in an operational bandwidth that the STA supports at a transmission power determined based on the indicated one or more maximum transmission powers in the received information element. 8. The STA of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of operational bandwidths includes at least a 20 MHz channel bandwidth and a 40 MHz channel bandwidth. 9. The STA of claim 7 , wherein the information element is included in a received beacon frame. 10. The STA of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of operational bandwidths includes simultaneously operable bandwidths. 11. The STA of claim 7 , wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit, to the AP, a probe request frame that includes an indicator indicating a plurality of operational bandwidths that the STA supports. 12. The STA of claim 11 , wherein the information element is included in a received probe response frame. 13. An access point (AP) comprising: a transmitter configured to transmit, to a station (STA), an information element that indicates one or more maximum transmission powers associated with a plurality of operational bandwidths that the STA supports; and a receiver configured to receive, from the STA, a signal in an operational bandwidth that the STA supports at a transmission power determined based on the indicated one or more maximum transmission powers in the transmitted information element. 14. The AP of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of operational bandwidths includes at least a 20 MHz channel bandwidth and a 40 MHz channel bandwidth. 15. The AP of claim 13 , wherein the information element is included in a transmitted beacon frame. 16. The AP of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of operational bandwidths includes simultaneously operable bandwidths. 17. The AP of claim 13 , wherein the receiver is further configured to receive, from the STA, a probe request frame that includes an indicator indicating a plurality of operational bandwidths that the STA supports. 18. The AP of claim 17 , wherein the information element is included in a transmitted probe response frame.
