Curable adhesive films, primers for adhesion of curable adhesive films, and adhesive systems comprising adhesive films and primers are provided. In some embodiments, an adhesive system comprises: I) a curable adhesive free-standing film comprising a blend of: a) a first film-forming polymer or oligomer; b) a first species comprising first unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups, which may be a) or a species other than a); and c) a first transition metal cation; and II) a primer for adhesion of a curable adhesive free-standing film to a first substrate comprising an oxidizing agent. In some embodiments, an adhesive system comprises: I) a curable adhesive free-standing film comprising an outer surface bearing embossed air bleed channels capable of aiding in escape of air during application of the outer surface to a primed substrate; and II) a primer comprising components that initiate cure of the curable adhesive free-standing film.

We claim: 1. A primer for adhesion of a curable adhesive film to a first substrate comprising: a) a first film-forming polymer or oligomer; b) a species comprising first unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups, which may be a) or may be a species other than a); c) a transition metal cation; and d) an oxidizing agent which is not a), b), or c); wherein the primer is a liquid at normal temperature and pressure. 2. The primer according to claim 1 wherein b) is a). 3. The primer according to claim 1 wherein b) is a species other than a), wherein a) does not comprise unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups. 4. An adhesive system comprising: I) a primer comprising: a) a first film-forming polymer or oligomer; b) a species comprising first unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups, which may be a) or may be a species other than a); c) a transition metal cation; and d) an oxidizing agent which is not a), b), or c); wherein the primer is a liquid at normal temperature and pressure; and II) a curable adhesive free-standing film comprising: e) a second film-forming polymer or oligomer; f) a second species comprising second unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups, which may be e) or may be a species other than e); g) a reducing agent which is not e) or f) and which does not comprise a transition metal, nitrogen or sulfur. 5. A primer for adhesion of a curable adhesive free-standing film to a first substrate comprising a blend of: a) a first film-forming polymer or oligomer; b) a species comprising first unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups, which may be a) or may be a species other than a); and c) an oxidizing agent which is not a) or b); wherein the primer comprises no tackifier and no reducing agent that is not a) or b), and wherein the primer is a liquid at normal temperature and pressure. 6. The primer according to claim 5 wherein b) is a). 7. The primer according to claim 5 wherein b) is a species other than a), wherein a) does not comprise unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups. 8. A construction comprising: a first substrate; a second substrate; a tape comprising: a support layer; a first cured adhesive free-standing film borne on a face of the support layer, wherein the first cured adhesive free-standing film is formed from a first curable adhesive free-standing film comprising: a first film-forming polymer or oligomer; a first species comprising unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups, which may be the first film-forming polymer or oligomer or a species other than this; and a first transition metal cation; a second cured adhesive free-standing film borne on a face of the support layer opposite the first cured adhesive free-standing film, wherein the second cured adhesive free-standing film is formed from a second curable adhesive free-standing film comprising: a second film-forming polymer or oligomer; a second species comprising unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups, which may be the second film-forming polymer or oligomer, or a species other than this; and a second transition metal cation; a first primer disposed between the first cured adhesive free-standing film and the first substrate, wherein the first primer is formed from a first primer that is liquid at normal temperature and pressure and comprises a first oxidizing agent; and a second primer disposed between the second cured adhesive free-standing film and the second substrate, wherein the second primer is formed from a second primer that is liquid at normal temperature and pressure and comprises a second oxidizing agent. 9. The construction according to claim 8 , wherein the support layer is a foam. 10. The construction according to claim 9 , wherein the foam is a closed cell, open cell, syntactic, or non-syntactic foam. 11. The construction according to claim 8 , wherein the support layer comprises a filler. 12. The construction according to claim 11 , wherein the filler comprises solid or hollow particles. 13. The construction according to claim 12 , wherein the solid or hollow particles comprise a polymer, glass, ceramic, or metal oxide material. 14. A method of making the construction of claim 8 , the method comprising: applying the first primer to the first substrate, wherein the first primer is liquid at normal temperature and pressure and comprises the first oxidizing agent; applying the second primer to the second substrate, wherein the second primer is liquid at normal temperature and pressure and comprises the second oxidizing agent; applying a curable tape to the first primer, the curable tape comprising: the support layer; a first curable adhesive free-standing film borne on the face of the support layer, the first curable adhesive free-standing film comprising: the first film-forming polymer or oligomer; the first species comprising unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups, which may be the first film-forming polymer or oligomer or a species other than this; and the first transition metal cation; a second curable adhesive free-standing film borne on the face of the support layer opposite the first curable adhesive free-standing film, the second curable adhesive free-standing film comprising: the second film-forming polymer or oligomer; the second species comprising unsaturated free-radically polymerizable groups, which may be the second film-forming polymer or oligomer, or a species other than this; and the second transition metal cation; wherein the first curable adhesive free-standing film is brought into contact with the first primer; bringing the second primer borne on the second substrate in contact with the second curable adhesive free-standing film; and allowing the curable tape to cure to form the first cured adhesive free-standing film and the second cured adhesive free-standing film. 15.
