The present disclosure relates to compounds and compositions that inhibit the NLRP3 inflammasome, for example, a compound according to formula I wherein R 1 is C 1-4 alkyl; and R 2 is H or C 1-4 alkyl, provided that when R 2 is H. R 1 is not CH 3 . Also disclosed are methods for treating multiple sclerosis using the compounds and compositions.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of treating a condition selected from Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and multiple sclerosis comprising administering to a subject having said condition a compound having a structure selected from: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound has a structure selected from: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound has a structure selected from: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound has a structure selected from: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the compound is or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method comprises administering a composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and the compound. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the treating comprises an active treatment, or a causal treatment. 8. The method of claim 5 , wherein the method comprises administering a composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and the compound. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the treating comprises a palliative treatment, or a supportive treatment. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the condition is Parkinson's disease. 11. A method of treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, comprising administering to a subject having amyotrophic lateral sclerosis a compound having a structure selected from: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the compound has a structure selected from: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the compound has a structure selected from: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 16.
