What is claimed is: 1. An isolated nucleotide molecule selected from: a double-stranded RNA molecule that inhibits expression of Alu RNA, wherein a first strand of the double-stranded RNA comprises a sequence selected from SEQ ID NO: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 and including about 19 to 25 nucleotides; and a vector comprising an oligonucleotide that inhibits the expression of Alu RNA, comprising a sequence selected from SEQ ID NO: 22, 23, 24, and 25 and including about 29 to 100 nucleotides; and a vector comprising an oligonucleotide that inhibits the expression of Alu RNA, consisting of the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 26. 2. A method of protecting an RPE cell, comprising administering a nucleotide molecule of claim 1 .
