A method and apparatus for an adjustable suspension system for a vehicle comprises at least one strut. In one embodiment, the stanchion (or slider) is non-uniform with a major and minor circumferential stiffness and is adjustable relative to a fore and aft axis of the vehicle in order to provide a differing amount of stiffness relative thereto. In another embodiment, a portion of the stanchion is circular and a reinforcement is annularly disposed therearound with axial retention formations, The reinforcement has a non-uniform circumferential characteristic and is rotatable relative to the fore/aft axis of the vehicle

What is claimed is: 1. A suspension for a vehicle comprising: a strut assembly including a first and a second longitudinal reinforcement member, said first longitudinal reinforcement member disposed within and slidable relative to said second longitudinal reinforcement member, wherein said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member comprise a stanchion and a slider respectively; said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member rotatable relative to each another between a first rotation position in which said strut assembly has a first rotation position stiffness in a plane substantially coincident with a fore/aft direction and an up/down direction relative to said vehicle and a second rotation position in which said strut assembly has a second rotation position stiffness in said plane, said second rotation position stiffness less than said first rotation position stiffness; wherein one of said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member comprises a portion having a non-circular shape with a major dimension greater than a minor dimension; said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member having an arrangement together wherein said major dimension is substantially aligned with said plane, wherein, in use, said arrangement results in an arrangement stiffness; said suspension further comprising a mounting device for selectively retaining said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member in said first rotation position; and a bushing having an inner surface substantially conforming to said non-circular shape, and an outer surface of substantially circular shape, wherein said outer surface, said stanchion or a slider is mountable on a vehicle via said mounting device. 2. The suspension of claim 1 , wherein said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member are rotatable relative to one another by a user of said vehicle between said first rotation position and said second rotation position. 3. The suspension of claim 2 , wherein said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member are retainable by said mounting device in a preset indexed position between said first rotation position and said second rotation position. 4. The suspension of claim 2 , wherein said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member are retainable by said mounting in any position between said first rotation position and said second rotation position. 5. The suspension of claim 2 , wherein a stiffness of said strut assembly is user- adjustable on said vehicle. 6. The suspension of claim 1 , wherein said mounting device is a triple clamp. 7. The suspension of claim 1 , wherein said suspension is readily rotated when said mounting device is released. 8. The suspension of claim 1 , wherein one of said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member comprises a portion having a first material in a first zone thereof and a second material in a second zone thereof, said first material and said second material having a different respective stiffness and said first material having a greater stiffness than said second material, said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member arrangeable such that, in use, a third stiffness is obtained from said one of said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member being oriented so that said first zone is substantially aligned with said plane. 9. The suspension of claim 8 wherein said first zone and said second zone extend lengthwise along said portion of said one of said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member. 10. The suspension of claim 1 wherein one of said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member comprises a wall having a wall thickness with a first section having a first wall thickness and a second section having a second wall thickness less than said first wall thickness, said one of said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member arrangeable such that, in use, said relative rotation between said first longitudinal reinforcement member and said second longitudinal reinforcement member causes corresponding rotation of said wall between a first and a second position, in which in said first position said first section is substantially aligned with said plane. 11. The suspension of claim 1 wherein said suspension is coupled to a vehicle. 12. The suspension of claim 1 wherein said suspension is coupled to a motorcycle.
