A control assembly for use in controlling a speed of operation of an electric device, the control assembly including: a control assembly housing; a magnetic sensor; a magnetic element; an actuator that is configured for movement relative to the control assembly housing wherein responsive to said movement of the actuator relative to the control assembly housing, the magnetic sensor and magnetic element move relative to each other between at least one of a first position and a second position such that the magnetic sensor senses a first magnetic field reading when in the first position and senses a second magnetic field reading when in the second position; and, a control module operably connected to the magnetic sensor and configured for controlling the electric device to operate in at least one of a first speed and a second speed by reference to an output of the magnetic sensor indicative of the sensed first magnetic field reading and the second magnetic field reading respectively.

What is claimed is: 1. A control assembly for use in controlling a speed of operation of an electric device, the control assembly including: a control assembly housing; a finger-operable trigger; a hall effect sensor; a magnetic element; a linearly slidable actuator that is, responsive to pulling of the trigger, configured for linearly slidable movement along a movement axis inwardly of an opening in the control assembly housing wherein responsive to said movement of the actuator relative to the control assembly housing, the hall effect sensor and magnetic element are moved relative to each other between at least one of a first position and a second position such that the hall effect sensor senses a first magnetic field reading when in the first position and senses a second magnetic field reading when in the second position, said linearly slidable actuator being further configured for operable interaction with an electric switch unit so as to close and open electrical contacts of the electric unit as the linearly slidable actuator moves along the movement axis between at least one of the first and second positions; a control module operably connected to the hall effect sensor and configured for controlling the electric device to operate in at least one of a first speed and a second speed by reference to an output of the hall effect sensor indicative of the sensed first magnetic field reading and the second magnetic field reading respectively, wherein the hall effect sensor is mounted to an internal wall of the control assembly housing and the magnetic element is mounted to the linearly slidable actuator; a reversing mechanism comprising a reversing lever operable by the user for controlling the direction of operation of the electric device in either a forward or a reverse operational mode, wherein the reversing lever is configured for rotational movement around an axis of rotation that is substantially parallel with a planar surface of the internal wall of the control assembly housing upon which the hall effect sensor is mounted, and the magnetic element is mounted on a side wall of the linearly slidable actuator wherein a planar surface of the side wall of the linearly slidable actuator is both substantially parallel with the axis of rotation of the reversing lever and substantially orthogonal with the planar surface of the internal wall of the control assembly housing, and wherein, said reversing mechanism further including a reversing lever sensor for sensing a position of the reversing lever during its rotations movement around the axis of rotation so as to be indicative of the forward or reverse operational mode. 2. A control assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein the output of the hall effect sensor includes a variable resistance that is indicative of at least one of the sensed first magnetic field reading and the second magnetic field reading. 3. A control assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein the hall effect sensor includes a magneto-resistive material. 4. A control assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein the speed of operation of the electric device includes a speed of operation of an electric motor of the electric device.
