Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A single platform for controller functionality for each of security, monitoring and automation, as well as providing a capacity to function as a bidirectional Internet gateway, is provided. Embodiments of the present invention provide such functionality by virtue of a configurable architecture that enables a user to adapt the system for the user's specific needs. Embodiments of the present invention further provide for remote access to the configurable controller, thereby providing for remote monitoring of the state of a dwelling and for remote control of home automation. Embodiments of the present invention further provide for reporting to a provider those sensors and other hardware used by the configurable architecture, enabling the provider to track inventory of such items.

What is claimed is: 1. A device comprising: one or more processors; and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to: receive data indicating at least one premises device located at a premises; receive, via a user interface, a user input indicating an assignment, by a user, of a zone function, of a plurality of zone functions to the at least one premises device, wherein a type of response of a premises management system to premises device data received from the at least one premises device is determined based, at least in part, on the assigned zone function; and send, to a computing device located external to the premises, an indication that the zone function is assigned to the at least one premises device. 2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the device to receive, via the user interface, user input indicating the zone function is associated with a zone. 3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the user interface is configured to output information associated with the at least one premises device or one or more of the plurality of zone functions. 4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the device to receive, via the user interface, user input defining a plurality of zones. 5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the device to: receive, via the user interface, user input associating the at least one premises device with a zone. 6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the device to receive, via the user interface, user input indicative of one or more characteristics associated with the at least one premises device. 7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the device to determine a zone type associated with a zone, wherein the zone type is associated with the zone function. 8. The device of claim 7 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the device to receive user input indicating one or more of the zone functions associated with one or more zones of the premises. 9. The device of claim 1 , wherein each zone of a plurality of zones comprises a defined area of the premises. 10. A system comprising: a first computing device located external to a premises; a plurality of premises devices located at the premises; and a second computing device located at the premises configured to communicate with the first computing device, wherein the second computing device is configured to: receive data indicating at least one premises device of the plurality of premises devices; receive, via a user interface, a user input indicating an assignment, by a user, of a zone function, of a plurality of zone functions, to the at least one premises device, wherein a type of response of a premises management system to premises device data received from the at least one premises device is determined based, at least in part, on the assigned zone function; and send, to the first computing device, an indication that the zone function is assigned to the at least one premises device. 11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second computing device is further configured to receive, via the user interface, user input indicating the zone function is associated with a zone. 12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the user interface is configured to output information associated with the plurality of premises devices or one or more of a plurality of zones. 13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second computing device is further configured to receive, via the user interface, user input defining a plurality of zones. 14. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second computing device is further configured to receive, via the user interface, user input associating the at least one premises device with a zone. 15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second computing device is configured to receive, via the user interface, user input indicative of one or more characteristics associated with the at least one premises device. 16. The system of claim 10 , wherein each zone of a plurality of zones comprises a defined area of the premises. 17. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second computing device is further configured to: determine a zone type associated with a zone, wherein the zone type is associated with the zone function and wherein the zone type comprises at least one of an entry zone, an exit zone, an interior zone, or a perimeter zone. 18. A method comprising: receiving, by a first computing device located at a premises, data indicating at least one premises device located at the premises; receiving, via a user interface, user input indicating an assignment, by a user, of a zone function, of a plurality of zone functions, to the at least one premises device, wherein a type of response of a premises management system to premises device data received from the at least one premises device is determined based, at least in part, on the assigned zone function; and sending, to a second computing device located external to the premises, an indication that the zone function is assigned to the at least one premises device. 19. The method of claim 18 , further comprising determining a zone type associated with a zone, wherein the zone type is associated with the zone function. 20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising: receiving user input indicating one or more of the zone functions associated with one or more zones of the premises. 21. The method of claim 19 , wherein the zone type comprises at least one of an entry zone, an exit zone, an interior zone, or a perimeter zone. 22. The method of claim 18 , further comprising receiving a user input indicating one or more of the zone functions associated with one or more zones of a plurality of zones. 23. The method of claim 18 , wherein the zone function comprises one or more premises device responses to sensor data. 24. A method comprising: receiving data indicating at least one premises device located at the premises; receiving, via a user interface, user input indicating an assignment, by a user, of a zone function, of a plurality of zone functions, to the at least one premises device, wherein a type of response of a premises management system to premises device data received from the at least one premises device is determined based, at least in part, on the assigned zone function; and sending, to a computing device located external to the premises, an indication that the zone function is assigned to the at least one premises device. 25. The method of claim 24 , further comprising: receiving, from the computing device, data indicating a transceiver module configured to communicate with the computing device; generating, based on the data indicating the transceiver module, inventory data; and storing the inventory data. 26. The method of claim 24 , further comprising: receiving an indication that the zone function is associated with a zone. 27. The method of claim 24 , further comprising: receiving, via the user interface, user input indicating the zone function is associated with a zone. 28. The method of claim 24 , further comprising: receiving, via the user interface, output information associated with the at least one premises device or one or mor
