What is claimed is: 1. A guide assembly for at least partially opening and conveying a carton, the guide assembly comprising: a support member; a first guide arm; and a second guide arm spaced from the first guide arm by the support member, each of the first guide arm and the second guide arm comprising a tapered end that is spaced apart from the support member, at least one flange extending obliquely from a central portion of the respective first guide arm and second guide arm, and a slit extending in the central portion for at least partially receiving a respective portion of the carton, the tapered end comprising an oblique edge extending along at least a portion of the central portion and the at least one flange, wherein, for each of the first guide arm and the second guide arm, the slit extends from the tapered end of the respective first guide arm and second guide arm, and wherein the central portions of the first guide arm and the second guide arm are mounted to the support member so that the central portions of the first guide arm and second guide arm are parallel to one another; wherein the guide assembly is pivotably mounted on a support. 2. The guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein, for each of the first guide arm and the second guide arm, the at least one flange comprises at least a first flange and a second flange respectively extending from the central portion, and the first flange and the second flange are spaced apart from one another by the central portion and extend away from one another. 3. The guide assembly of claim 2 , wherein, for each of the first guide arm and the second guide arm, the edge of the tapered end extends along at least a portion of the first flange and the second flange. 4. The guide assembly of claim 2 , wherein, for each of the first guide arm and the second guide arm, each of the first flange and the second flange is oblique with respect to one another. 5. The guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein the at least one flange comprises at least two oblique flanges extending on each of the first guide arm and the second guide arm. 6. The guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein the central portions of the first guide arm and the second guide arm are spaced apart from one another in a direction that is perpendicular to the central portions. 7. The guide assembly of claim 1 , wherein, for each of the first guide arm and the second guide arm, the at least one flange comprises at least a first flange and a second flange respectively extending from the central portion, and wherein the support member extends between the first flange and the second flange of at least one of the first guide arm and the second guide arm so that the first flange and the second flange are on opposite sides of the support member.
