A method of loading articles in cartons. The method can comprise moving a carton in a generally flat configuration in a downstream direction with a carton opening carousel, at least partially opening the carton while moving the carton with the carton opening carousel, and transferring the carton from the carton opening carousel to a carton loading carousel in a transfer region. The transferring the carton can comprise moving the carton in an upstream direction. The method further can comprise loading a plurality of articles into the carton while moving the carton in a downstream direction with the carton loading carousel.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of loading articles in cartons comprising: moving a carton in a generally flat configuration in a downstream direction with a carton opening carousel; at least partially opening the carton while moving the carton in the downstream direction with the carton opening carousel; transferring the carton from the carton opening carousel to a carton loading carousel in a transfer region, the transferring the carton comprising positioning the carton onto a carrier flight of the carton loading carousel while moving the carton in an upstream direction, wherein the upstream direction is opposite to the downstream direction; and loading a plurality of articles into the carton while moving the carton in the downstream direction with the carton loading carousel. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least partially opening the carton comprises moving the carton onto a guide assembly so that the guide assembly is at least partially received in an interior of the carton. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the guide assembly comprises two guide arms, and the moving the carton onto the guide assembly comprises at least partially receiving the two guide arms in the interior of the carton. 4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the guide assembly comprises a guide arm, the guide arm comprises two opposed flanges and a tapered end, and the two flanges of the guide arm urge panels of the carton outwardly to an at least partially open position as the carton is moved onto the guide assembly. 5. The method of claim 2 , wherein the guide assembly comprises a guide arm that engages the interior of the carton after the moving the carton onto the guide assembly, and the method further comprises pivoting the guide arm and the carton to an upright orientation after the at least partially opening the carton. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the transferring the carton from the carton opening carousel to the carton loading carousel comprises moving the carton downwardly off the guide arm of the guide assembly onto the carrier flight of the carton loading assembly. 7. The method of claim 2 , wherein the at least partially opening the carton comprises engaging panels of the carton with vacuum cups and moving the panels to an at least partially open position prior to moving the carton onto the guide assembly. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the vacuum cups comprise upper vacuum cups mounted on an upper rotary vacuum head and lower vacuum cups mounted on a lower rotary vacuum head, the engaging panels of the carton with the vacuum cups comprises rotating the upper rotary vacuum head and the lower rotary vacuum head to move the upper vacuum cups and the lower vacuum cups toward the carton to engage respective panels of the carton, and the moving the panels to the at least partially open position comprises continuing to rotate the upper rotary vacuum head and the lower rotary vacuum head to move the upper vacuum cups and the lower vacuum cups away from one another, pulling the respective panels of the carton upwardly and downwardly, respectively. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the carrier flight at least partially retains the carton in an upright orientation during the loading the carton. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the loading the plurality of articles into the carton comprises lowering the plurality of articles into the carton through an open top of the carton. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the loading the plurality of articles into the carton further comprises moving a plurality of loading lugs under the plurality of articles and moving the carton upwardly to at least partially receive the plurality of loading lugs through the open top of the carton prior to the lowering the plurality of articles into the carton, and the lowering the plurality of articles into the carton comprises engaging each article of the plurality of articles with a respective loading lug of the plurality of loading lugs. 12. The method of claim 11 , wherein each of the loading lugs of the plurality of loading lugs comprises three fingers extending generally downwardly from a common crossmember, and the engaging each article with the respective loading lugs comprises sliding each article between the fingers of the respective loading lugs, the respective article urging the fingers to bend outwardly at least partially away from one another as the respective article slides between the fingers. 13. The method of claim 10 , further comprising forming the plurality of articles into a group between two guide blocks prior to the lowering the plurality of articles into the carton. 14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the carton comprises an at least partially closed bottom prior to the loading the plurality of articles into the carton. 15. A system for loading articles into cartons comprising: a carton opening carousel for moving the cartons in a downstream direction, the carton opening carousel having opening features for at least partially opening the cartons from a generally flat configuration while moving the cartons in the downstream direction; a carton loading carousel for loading the articles into the cartons while moving the articles and the cartons in the downstream direction, the carton loading carousel comprising at least one carrier flight; and a transfer region for transferring the cartons from the carton opening carousel to the carton loading carousel, the carton opening carousel and the carton loading carousel cooperating to at least partially form the transfer region, and the carton opening carousel and the carton loading carousel being configured for moving the cartons in an upstream direction in the transfer region while positioning the carton onto the at least one carrier flight of the carton loading carousel, wherein the upstream direction is opposite to the downstream direction. 16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the carton opening carousel is configured for moving the cartons from a downstream end of the carton opening carousel in the transfer region, and the carton loading carousel is configured for receiving the carton from the carton opening carousel in the transfer region and moving the carton to an upstream end of the carton loading carousel. 17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the upstream end of the carton loading carousel is proximate to an upstream end of the carton opening carousel. 18. The system of claim 15 , wherein the carton opening carousel comprises at least one guide assembly for at least partially opening at least one of the cartons, the at least one guide assembly comprising at least one guide arm for being at least partially received in an interior of the carton. 19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the at least one guide arm comprises two opposed flanges and a tapered end, and the two flanges of the at least one guide arm are for urging panels of the carton outwardly to an at least partially open position as the at least one guide arm is at least partially received in the carton. 20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the at least one guide assembly comprises a support and the at least one guide arm is pivotably mounted to the support for reorienting the carton to a generally vertical orientation. 21. The system of claim 18 , wherein the at least one guide assembly comprises a discharge arm for pushing the carton off the guide arm in the transfer region. 22. The system of claim 18 , wherein the carton opening carousel further comprises at least one rotary vacuum
