Provided are inhibitors of sphingosine kinase Type I that are useful in the treatment of neuropathic pain.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for treating neuropathic pain in a patient, comprising: administering to a patient in need of treatment for neuropathic pain a compound having the formula 2. The method of claim 2 , wherein the step of administering to the patient comprises administering HCl to the patient. 4. A method for treating neuropathic pain in a patient, comprising: administering to a patient in need of treatment for neuropathic pain a compound having the formula wherein R comprises a straight carbon chain, a branched carbon chain, a straight carbon chain comprising one or more heteroatoms, a branched carbon chain comprising one or more heteroatoms, a cyclic ring, a heterocyclic ring, an aromatic ring, a hetero-aromatic ring, or any combination of the foregoing. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein R is a straight carbon chain, a branched carbon chain, a straight carbon chain comprising one or more heteroatoms, a branched carbon chain comprising one or more heteroatoms, a cyclic ring, a heterocyclic ring, an aromatic ring, a hetero-aromatic ring, or any combination of the foregoing. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein R is a straight carbon chain, a branched carbon chain, a straight carbon chain comprising one or more heteroatoms, a branched carbon chain comprising one or more heteroatoms, a cyclic ring, a heterocyclic ring, an aromatic ring, or a hetero-aromatic ring. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein R is a straight carbon chain, a branched carbon chain, a straight carbon chain comprising one or more heteroatoms, or a branched carbon chain comprising one or more heteroatoms. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein R is a straight carbon chain or a branched carbon chain. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein R is a straight carbon chain. 10. A method for treating neuropathic pain in a patient, consisting essentially of: administering to the patient.
