The present invention relates to PDE9 inhibitors and their use for treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia and sickle cell disease.

The invention claimed is: 1. A pharmaceutical composition comprising compound (3S,4S) -6-(4-methyl-1-pyrimidin-2-ylmethyl-pyrrolidin-3-yl)-3-(tetrahydro-pyran-4-yl)-7H -imidazo[1,5-a]pyrazin-8-one and one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers, diluents, or excipients, wherein the compounds is present in the composition from 0.01 mg to 1000 mg per dose. 2. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 , wherein the compound is present in the composition from 0.05 mg to 500 mg per dose. 3. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1 , wherein the compound is present in the composition from 0.05 to 200 mg per dose. 4. A method of treating sickle cell disease in a patient in need thereof, comprising administering to the patient from 0.001 mg/kg to 100 mg/kg body weight per day of a compound (3S,4S)-6-(4-methyl-1-pyrimidin-2-ylmethyl-pyrrolidin-3-yl)-3-(tetrahydro-pyran-4-yl)-7H-imidazo[1,5-a]pyrazin-8-one. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the compound is administered to the patient from 0.01 mg/kg to 50 mg/kg body weight per day. 6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the compound is administered to the patient from 0.05 mg/kg to 10 mg/kg body weight per day. 7. The method of claim 4 , wherein the compound is administered to the patient orally. 8. The method of claim 4 , wherein the compound is administered to the patient in one to three doses per day.
