Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A melt-blown fabric for pouching smokeless tobacco or a smokeless tobacco substitute can include melt-blown polymer fibers. The fabric can have a basis weight of less than 30 gsm and a tensile strength of at least 4 mJ in at least one predetermined direction. Method of making the fabric can include melt-blowing a polymeric material against a support surface and bonding the fibers or arranging them in a predetermined orientation. Pouched smokeless tobacco or tobacco substitute products including the fabrics provided herein can provide desirable flavor and tactile experience.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of making a pouched oral product comprising: providing a rotating drum including a surface defining a recess, the rotating drum having a first non-woven fabric, an oral product, and a second non-woven fabric thereon such that the oral product is in the recess between the first non-woven fabric and the second non-woven fabric; and forming the pouched oral product by rotating a weld and cut roller against the rotating drum to seal and cut the first non-woven fabric and the second non-woven fabric around the oral product, the weld and cut roller defining a recess configured to be aligned with the recess of the rotating drum. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the providing includes applying the second non-woven fabric over the first non-woven fabric and the oral product. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the applying includes supplying the second non-woven fabric with a supply roller. 4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the providing further includes, prior to the applying, depositing the oral product on the first non-woven fabric. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the providing includes, applying the first non-woven fabric to the rotating drum, depositing the oral product on the first non-woven fabric, and applying the second non-woven fabric over the first non-woven fabric and the oral product. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the providing further includes conforming the first non-woven fabric to a surface of the rotating drum prior to the depositing. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the conforming includes applying vacuum to the first non-woven fabric. 8. The method of claim 5 , wherein the applying the first non-woven fabric includes applying the first non-woven fabric with a first supply roller, and the applying the second non-woven fabric includes applying the second non-woven fabric with a second supply roller. 9. The method of claim 5 , further comprising: forming the oral product prior to the providing. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the oral product includes a tobacco extract. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the tobacco extract includes nicotine. 12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the oral product further includes non-tobacco cellulosic material. 13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the non-tobacco cellulosic material includes tea leaves, red clover, coconut flakes, mint leaves, citrus fiber, bamboo fiber, ginseng, apple, corn silk, grape leaf, basil leaf, or any combination thereof. 14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the oral product further includes a flavorant. 15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first non-woven fabric and the second non-woven fabric each include melt-blown polymeric fibers. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the melt-blown polymeric fibers include an elastomer. 17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the elastomer includes polyurethane. 18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first non-woven fabric and the second non-woven fabric each have a basis weight of less than or equal to 30 grams per square meter.
