Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Aromatics extraction and hydrocracking processes are integrated with a stream pyrolysis unit to optimize the performance of the hydrocracking units by processing the aromatic-rich and aromatic-lean fractions separately in order to better control the hydrocracking operating severity and/or catalyst reactor volume design requirements.

First claim

Opening claim text (preview).

The invention claimed is: 1. An integrated hydrocracking and steam pyrolysis process for producing cracked hydrocarbons from a hydrogen feed that contains aromatic, paraffinic and olefinic compounds, including aromatic nitrogen- and sulfur-containing compounds, the feed being any liquid hydrocarbon suitable for use in hydrocarbon cracking unit operations, the process comprising: a. separating, in an aromatic extraction zone, the hydrocarbon feed into a hydrogen-rich fraction comprising paraffinic and olefinic compounds and a hydrogen-lean fraction comprising aromatic compounds; b. hydrocracking the hydrogen-lean fraction in a first stage hydrocracking reaction zone to produce a first stage hydrocracking reaction zone effluent, which effluent contains a reduced volume of aromatic nitrogen- and sulfur-containing compounds; c. subjecting the first stage hydrocracking reaction zone effluent to a gas-liquid separation step to provide a liquid phase and passing the separated liquid phase and the hydrogen-rich fraction to a steam pyrolysis reaction zone to produce a cracked steam pyrolysis reaction zone effluent; and d. passing the cracked steam pyrolysis reaction zone effluent to a fractionating zone and fractionating the steam pyrolysis reaction zone effluent and recovering one or more lower molecular weight product streams and one or more bottoms streams. 2. The process of claim 1 , wherein all or a portion of the one or more fractionating zone bottoms streams are selectively passed to the steam pyrolysis zone, the first stage hydrocracking zone and the aromatic extraction zone for further processing. 3. An integrated hydrocracking process for producing cracked hydrocarbons from a hydrocarbon feed containing aromatic, paraffinic and olefinic compounds, including aromatic nitrogen- and sulfur-containing compounds, the feed being any liquid hydrocarbon suitable for use in hydrocarbon cranking unit operations, the process comprising: a. separating, in an aromatic separation zone, the hydrocarbon feed into a hydrogen-rich fraction comprising paraffinic and olefinic compounds and a hydrogen-lean fraction comprising aromatic compounds; b. hydrocracking the hydrogen-lean fraction in a first stage hydrocracking reaction zone to produce a first stage hydrocracking reaction zone effluent, which effluent contains a reduced volume of aromatic nitrogen- and sulfur-containing compounds; c. fractionating the first stage hydrocracking reaction zone effluent in a fractionating zone with an effluent from a downstream steam pyrolysis reaction zone to produce one or more fractionating zone product streams and one or more fractionating zone bottoms streams; d. subjecting to steam pyrolysis a mixture of at least a portion of the one or more fractionating zone bottoms streams and the hydrogen-rich fraction in the steam pyrolysis reaction zone to produce a steam cracked hydrocarbon effluent; and e. passing the steam cracked hydrocarbon effluent to the fractionating zone for fractionating with the first stage hydrocracking zone effluent to produce the one or more product streams and the one or more bottom streams. 4. The process of claim 3 , wherein all or a portion of the one or more fractionating zone bottoms streams are selectively passed to the first stage hydrocracking zone and the aromatic extraction zone for further processing.
