Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A bale of sheets made of virgin cellulose fibers and cellulose ester (CE) staple fibers can be fed to a hydropulper. The CE staple fibers have:i. a denier per filament (DPF) of less than 3, orii. a cut length of less than 6 mm, oriii. crimping, oriv. a combination of any two or more of (i)-(iii).The bales can be fed and dropped in as entire bales to a hydropulper, or a blend tank directly or indirectly in fluid communication with a hydropulper, using the same feed system employed for feeding cellulose to the hydopulper and avoiding having to defiberize by pulling or drawing fibers from a box container into a hydropulper.

What we claim is: 1. A process for feeding bales to a hydropulper, comprising feeing a CE containing bale to a hydropulper, or a blend tank directly or indirectly in fluid communication with a hydropulper, wherein said CE containing bale comprises sheets and at least one of said sheets comprises virgin cellulose fibers and cellulose ester (CE) staple fibers, said CE staple fibers having: i. a denier per filament (DPF) of less than 3, or ii. a cut length of less than 6 mm, or iii. crimping, or iv. a combination of any two or more of (i)-(iii). 2. The process of claim 1 , wherein bales that do not contain CE staple fibers are fed to the hydropulper with a feed system, and the CE containing bales are fed to the hydropulper on the same feed system. 3. The process of claim 1 , wherein bale has straps and/or packaging, and the bale is fed with the straps, or the packaging, or both to the hydropulper. 4. The process of claim 1 , wherein the bale has straps and/or packaging made with or obtained from a cellulose pulp. 5. The process of claim 1 , wherein the bale is not defiberized prior to feeding the bale to a hydropulper. 6. The process of claim 1 , wherein the bale, after optionally unstrapping and unwrapping, is deposited as a bale without modification to a hydropulper. 7. The process of claim 1 , in which at least one of the sheets contains cellulose fibers and cellulose ester (CE) staple fibers feeding hydropulper or a blend tank directly or indirectly in fluid communication with a hydropulper for making wet laid products, wherein the CE staple fibers have i. a denier per filament (DPF) of less than 3, and ii. a cut length of less than 6 mm, and iii. crimping. 8. The process of claim 1 , wherein at least 90% of the fibers are randomly oriented, and the sheets within the bale are compressed. 9. The process of claim 1 , having dimensions of width×length×height of 12′″×12′″×12′″ and up to 42″×42″×30″. 10. The process of claim 1 , each sheet in the bale has the same width and length as the bale, and the bale height is comprised of the height of the stacked sheets, discounting packaging and strapping. 11. The process of claim 1 , wherein each sheet has a thickness of not more than 60 mm or greater than 2 inches. 12. The process of claim 1 , wherein the bales are flat on all sides. 13. The process of claim 1 , wherein the moisture of a sheet in the bale is from 1 to 25 wt. %, based on oven dryness. 14. The process of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the sheets is a slab having a thickness of at least 2 inches, and the slabs are flash dried. 15. The process of claim 1 , wherein bale has straps and/or packaging made with or obtained from a cellulose pulp. 16. The process of claim 1 , wherein the CE staple fibers have a target cut length of less than 6 mm, and the CE staple fibers have ratio of cut length to DPF not more than 5:1. 17. The process of claim 1 , wherein not more than 1 wt. % of a surface hydrolyzing binder is added to the CE staple fibers, or the sheets do not contain more than 1 wt. % of a surface hydrolyzing binder, or no surface hydrolyzing binder is added to or contained in the sheets. 18. The process of claim 1 , wherein the CE staple fibers are crimped. 19. The process of claim 1 , wherein at least 99 wt. % of all fibers in the Composition are cellulose fibers and CE staple fibers.
