The present application discloses an immunogenic composition comprising N. meningitidis capsular polysaccharides from at least one of serogroups A, C, W135 and Y conjugated to a carrier protein to produce a N. meningitidis capsular polysaccharide conjugate, wherein the average size of each N. meningitidis polysaccharide is above 50 kDa.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method of immunizing a human host against disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis infection, comprising administering to the host an immunoprotective dose of an immunogenic composition comprising: a stabilizing agent; and lyophilized N. meningitidis capsular polysaccharides from serogroups A, C, W, and Y, wherein: the serogroup A capsular polysaccharide has an average size of 300 kDa; the serogroup C capsular polysaccharide has an average size of 200 kDa; the serogroup Y capsular polysaccharide has an average size of 101-300 kDa; the serogroup W capsular polysaccharide has an average size of 101-300 kDa; and wherein each N. meningitidis capsular polysaccharide is a N. meningitidis capsular polysaccharide conjugate comprising a N. meningitidis capsular polysaccharide conjugated to a tetanus toxoid carrier protein, wherein the immunogenic composition elicits in the host an immune response which comprises an antibody titer against MenA, MenC, MenW, and Men Y greater than 0.3 μg/ml. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the serogroup Y capsular polysaccharide has an average size of 190-300 kDa; and the serogroup W capsular polysaccharide has an average size of 190-300 kDa. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the stabilizing agent comprises sucrose. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the stabilizing agent comprises trehalose. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the human is aged up to 14 months.
