The invention relates to variants and fusions of fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19), variants and fusions of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), fusions of fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) and/or fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), and variants or fusions of fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) and/or fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) proteins and peptide sequences (and peptidomimetics), having one or more activities, such as glucose lowering activity, and methods for and uses in treatment of hyperglycemia and other disorders.

What is claimed is: 1. A peptide having an amino acid sequence comprising (SEQ ID NO: 52) RDSSPLLQWGDPIRLRHLYTSGPHGLSSCFLRIRADGVVDCARGQSAHSL LEIKAVALRTVAIKGVHSVRYLCMGADGKMQGLLQYSEEDCAFEEEIRPD GYNVYRSEKHRLPVSLSSAKQRQLYKNRGFLPLSHFLPMLPMVPEEPEDL RGHLESDMFSSPLETDSMDPFGLVTGLEAVRSPSFEK. 2. The peptide of claim 1 , wherein the peptide is fused to an immunoglobulin Fc region. 3. A pharmaceutical composition, comprising the peptide of claim 2 , and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 4. A pharmaceutical composition, comprising the peptide of claim 2 , a glucose lowering agent, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 5. A pharmaceutical composition, comprising the peptide of claim 1 , and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 6. A pharmaceutical composition, comprising the peptide of claim 1 , a glucose lowering agent, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 7. A peptide having an amino acid sequence consisting of (SEQ ID NO: 52) RDSSPLLQWGDPIRLRHLYTSGPHGLSSCFLRIRADGVVDCARGQSAHSL LEIKAVALRTVAIKGVHSVRYLCMGADGKMQGLLQYSEEDCAFEEEIRPD GYNVYRSEKHRLPVSLSSAKQRQLYKNRGFLPLSHFLPMLPMVPEEPEDL RGHLESDMFSSPLETDSMDPFGLVTGLEAVRSPSFEK. 8. The peptide of claim 7 , wherein the peptide is fused to an immunoglobulin Fc region. 9. A pharmaceutical composition, comprising the peptide of claim 8 , and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 10. A pharmaceutical composition, comprising the peptide of claim 8 , a glucose lowering agent, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 11.
